how do i start playing Mp games?? How long do they usually take? Ive been here for a downloading mods and enjoying dominions alot. Have to say Pangaea is amazing to me.

Look for new games or requests for subs in the multiplayer forum, or watch the dominions irc channel (#dominions) for blitz games.

Games can take anywhere from years or months to a blitz game in an evening. Just be careful not to obligate to more games than you can manage as the late game turns can become quite time consuming. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I can't speak for other operating systems, but in windows, you use the printscreen key (PrtScrn), then paste into your favorite image editing program (or ms paint in a pinch).

Or, if you are running dominions in a window, you can use ALT+PRINTSCR and it will only capture the window with the focus instead of picking up the entire screen.

Welcome, Kaffa! There are quite a few resources here that will help you out. The manual is of course a good place to start. The Dominions 3 FAQ and the Strategy Index sticky threads are good stuff and after you have gotten a little bit more familiar with things, you can find more things in linked from my sig and Ballbarian's.

I've bought the game some time ago, but it is almost one year I've been reading threads of this wonderful forum and the wiki of the brilliant game known as Dominions3 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

The game seems huge and exciting! I'm not a min-maxer, I'd just have some fun with it in SP, possibly keeping my behaviour thematic. I'm a 36 year old computer programmer from MD, USA who only just recently found Dominions 3.

Wow, what a game!

I'd lost hope of finding a high quality fantasy strategy computer game over the years (since most companies seemed to be focusing on cutting edge graphics). But finally I've found one! And the depth! I'll be playing this game for years to come...

Now I just need to get some serious game playing in so that when I start joining in on some MP games I won't get my behind kicked. ;-)

I was curious so I looked back through my old emails and it turns out that I ordered Dominions 2 on Sun Oct 24, 2004. I played the Dominions PPP demo for a long time before ordering the 2nd one. You certainly won't be disappointed with Dom3. And once you exhaust the base game (yeah, right, haven't gotten around to playing half the nations myself), there is a glorious profusion of mods, though methinks quite a few are going to get an overhaul after we get more mod commands for different things in the next patch.

I found D3 through some guy pimping it on the Mount & Blade forums. Have had it for a few days now. Been lurking, finding the answers to most of my questions via the forum search. Hi, I'm 24 from Dallas, Texas. United States.
I saw this game advertised via the Stardock Central utility that came with my copy of Galactic Civilizations 2. After several months of playing nothing but my Xbox 360 I started looking around for PC games, and I remembered the advertisement for this one. Checked out the demo and I was immediately hooked.

Now I'm deeply entranced and virtually in love with the EA Agartha empire (blind cave salamanders as a race? Amazing). A game has not held my attention like this one for a long time.

Of course, the main downside is my roommates desire for me to pick up Battlefield Bad Company.....something that will not happen until I can break the hypnotic clutches of this game....

Agartha are defnitely one of the easier races to fall in love with. They're unique and thematically very deep.

Welcome!

The forum organizes longer games, and there's also an IRC channel for quick games. Long games are one turn/few days, usually, and can take several hours per turn for diplomacy, trading, planning and actually playing the turn.
Blitz games played on the IRC channel are played with few nations on small-ish maps, and are usually over in hours. Blitz games are, by necessity, more competitive. Joining a newbie game or taking over someone who has to leave for a time or permanently is a great way to learn. If you want to join a full game, I suggest asking some question in the IRC channel. Few blitz games will teach how to design a pretender that will support your nation instead of shooting it in the leg.

FAQ is a good place to start.

Introducing myself,
I am a 24 years old guy from Israel.
I've been a lurker on these forums for quite some time, and been playing dominions for quite a while (originally got Dom2 in 2005).
It took me quite some time to get Dom3 (the store from which I ordered the game didn't get, in fact it has yet to get it. I preorderd 2 months before the release).

And I haven't really got to play MP in Dom3 yet (only played a bit of MP in Dom2, even then with a friend to whom I introduced the game).

I've been thinking for quite some time to join these forums, but never really did so, untill... I saw that the forum's appearantly only Israeli is now conscripted into the army. So I decided to join, to fill his place http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

To tell the truth, I never really saw much Dominions playing in Israel. When I got 2, I found out about it from the home of the underdogs forums. Which compelled me to download the demo, which compelled me to show it to a friend, which made me order 2 copies through the store (the one that was supposed to get me Dom3 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif), which made me and my friend try to introduce this game to others. Especially to fans of MoM and the like.

I never saw Dominions 3 sold in Israel until recently, but there was a (very very very bad) review of it on an Israeli gaming website (the reviewer barely understood or played the game, and most of all: complained about certain bugs that we all know are part of the copy protection mechanism).

For a living I work as a programmer (or "Software Engineer" as some people like to call it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif ) for the military, something that along with my university studies leaves me very little free time

Apart from that, I have no favorite nation or even era.
And I very much like the commitment of Illwinter to release more and more patches, which actually add content to the game. And am of course very eagerly anticipating their next game (please let it be an rpg! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif )

I think you would find it more rpg'ish than dominions. But things might change. We did an overhaul of character advancement. The result is more rpg'ish than before. Well, I'm Darkwind. I'm also male. I enjoy multiplayer games in general, especially games heavy on diplomacy, since I'm not quite as good at strategizing as I am at convincing people to help me or keep me around (I was once kept around in a real-time diplomacy-esque game because the superpower who surrounded me thought I was funny). I'm also a fan of Warcraft III, mostly because of its immense moddability and easy-to-understand map editor (many people playing Starcraft and Warcraft cite the powerful editors as a reason the games are still popular, from what I've seen). That's it, I guess. Hey everyone!

(this feels going to a party and only waving 'hi' when the party is halfway over, though dom3 isn't necessarily halfway through its lifespan).

Hello!

I'm ashamed to admit that I'd never heard of Dominions at all, and I've been PC gaming since I bought a Soundblaster just to hear the sounds in Wing Commander! Rest assured that as soon as I played the demo, I knew I had to have this awesome game.

I've only just this weekend "beat" the tutorial level by barely hanging on and subjecting the AI to my outraged sputtering and indignant mouse clicking. I look forward to really getting into the nuts and bolts of this terrific strategy gem.

hi i am a noob from Malta but hope one day to be able to say i am a vet at this game, from my experiences playing the demo i loved how expansive the game was and it still suprised me after i got the full version how expansive the game actually is, so far no mp experiences yet except with my brother playing hotseat but i am really enjoying the game and eagerly want to be part of the community.
