Slobby, three of us staled this last turn - After a game restart, I think more time to get back in a regular rythmn is in order. I got a turn late last night, and when I wake this morning, to do the turn - I have another turn. I'd *like* to request a turn roll back. Winning (or losing) by stale just defeats the purpose of having human opponents. |
Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!
Well Chris has resigned, so I'll be looking for yet another sub, thankfully Slayer ai has already agreed to subbing, I've left it up to him to choose which of the nations - and with that there is only one sub needed. :D

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!
Slobby,
I give you kudos for starting up interesting games. To my mind you really started this fad of changing the victory conditions - which help set up great games. That being said, I'd again like to encourage you to take better care after events such as forum outages, or servers being down. The time of server processing changes. In my case the entire cycle of warningn and processing occurred while I slept. I know I wasn't aware of what time the server was hosting now. I also know apparently I wasn't the only one, as two other people also staled. The loss of progress in the game is extreme at this time in the game. Boundaries with neighbors are being decided, mercenaries are highly relevent, etc. Mictlan, being dominion limited rather than gold limited, suffers more from this problem. I lost 1/6 of production for the game by missing a turn. The reason you don't wish to continue with two empties - is because it give the neighbors too much advantage. This is the same reason that I think that the turn should have been rerun. It changes the complexion of the game too much, when a significant number stale. ***And I don't see the significant problem on rerunning the turn*** Anyway, I would have thought my comments worth a response or a comment in public or private. What is the problem with rerunning? or why you didn't wish to. Forgetting personal feelings for a moment would the game have been better with all the people running a turn, or three people missing? I have two neighbors that *should* take advantage of Mictlans lack of troops - to roll up the empty territories. Anyways, best wishes to all. I was *quite* looking forward to this game - and I was enjoying it. |
Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!
err...question...where's the .map file? i only found .rgb file for the TimewarpV2.zip
Since lots of nations staled, i dont mind rolling back tho...(i haven't even started...) |
Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!
Hey chris! I'm playing LA Mid, and I am here. Things have just been busy with work, so I have not been able to post as much as I would like.

Re: Timewarp! - Game is live!
Yeah I dont know what happened but I staled this last turn too.. I know I did the turn, in fact it was when I commented in the game thread about the patch changing things for me and I thought I sent the turn in but somehow something must have gotten screwed up because it says I staled.
I'd certainly like to have a roll back but if not I guess I'll just consider the gold earned from last turn to be money I can spend on a new fort. A roll back would be my preference but I'll live either way. |

Re: Timewarp! - Staling
General:
The game, as outlined in opening thread, is to be 24h for the first bit. Yes, there have been issues with llamaserver, however every time there was a hickup the correction has been made and the 24h interval reset to when the correciton was made. Just because the server goes awol should not be any reason to forget about the games that you have committed to. I'm the game admin not a babysitter. More in reply to Chris: I really don't see how hard it is to check your email atleast 1-2 times per 24h period and get your turn in. Apparently it is. Maybe you're too busy, real life does get in the way, however saying after you staled that you got the turn late at night and wish to roll back just won't jive. If you had posted before going to bed that you needed an extension, I could have done that. Honestly you had the turn, could have easily checked to see when it is due and gone from there. Twice now you have threatened to leave the game (in fact this time you resigned even before I could reply to your post!), well I've taken you up on your word and have already found a sub for your position. And as for 'starting a fad' I really do not know where you're coming from. This is the first game I've organized, perhaps you mistake me for someone else. Regardless what's done is done. I have found subs for MA T'ien and LA Mictlan and the game will go on, with perhaps one more extension to get the second sub set up. My apologies to the players for the delay. |

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Slobby, you make it sound as if the 24h deadline has been rigorously enforced, when in fact it hasn't. Not counting the llama delay, the game was delayed on the at least 3 times going back through the threads. I got interested in resigning when you arbitrarily delayed the game 3 days without word or explanation, till after the fact. I grant that I signed up for a 24 hour game. But processing times that vary wildly and unpredictably do not make it easier. And you never answered the question -why *not* just rerun the turn. When I have hosted (and a thankless job it is - so kudos to you for that), I find the critical question is - what is the best course of action *for the game*. So things I think are critical are: -Explaining whats going on, when theres a delay. -If a turn crashes explaining, asking for opinions on how to deal with it, and then explain the decision you made. -Once you make a decision, try to apply it consistently. -Make decisions that damage the game the least. I think thats the critical point. So, in this particular instance, I think the game is damaged by having three staling positions, especially with a plausible reason why. I also think that having a substitute play a position, damages the game, because the substitute presumably will not know how the pretenenders and dominion were optimized, why the research was done in the way it was etc. Now it could be that there were huge game issues; reasons to not rerun the turn. But without an explanation it just seems you chose not to, because you didn't *want* to. Anyway, thanks for setting up the game. Good luck & good gaming |
