protip: never accidentally tell your assassins to move without sneaking!

lol good thing they weren't worth that many gems

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

I saw that fight. :)

I've gotten in the habit of Shift-Click to move, so I don't accidentally sneak stealth units. But now I've got the opposite problem of accidentally moving when I wanted to sneak.

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

assassins with quickness and animate dead for 5fatigue forms a fairly powerful assassination combo... i think i only ended up losing like what 15-20gems or so... i've had deadlier misclicks

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

Ok Lammaserver should have updated by now but it has not. At least not that I see unless its showing me something different. It should have hosted the turn an hour ago but its frozen or something. I'm not really sure what the deal is because I had another game on Lammaserver that had hosted just a few minutes before preponderance was supposed to host.

Zeldor April 6th, 2009 01:15 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

As hosting is in the past it would probably never host. It may have been Preponderance that crashed llamaserver. Anyway, I used force hosting now. Let me know if there are any other problems.

Zeldor April 6th, 2009 01:29 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

It looks like it skipped a turn [that is server did it earlier, but crashed, didn't send turn files and didn't update game page], so force hosting moved us one turn ahead. I think that best solution will be to roll back and resend turn56 for everyone, the one that you should have received on last hosting. I will wait for llamabeast to confirm it will work though.

PsiSoldier April 6th, 2009 01:49 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

So in other words, Ignore turn 57 for now I guess until we see if we can get turn 56 resent so we know what the hell happened.

llamabeast April 6th, 2009 01:56 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

I think Zeldor's just done a rollback and will shortly be asking everyone to resend their 2h files for Turn 56.

IMPORTANT: Before resending your 2h file, open up dominions, open the turn, "Continue where I left", then End Turn again. That will recreate your 2h file, which might help if it was corrupted. Then resend the 2h file.

Note that this may or may not work, but hopefully it will.

Note also that this is a dominions bug we're dealing with, not a server one.

Zeldor April 6th, 2009 02:00 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

That won't be a problem, as no one ever got turn 56. So no way to make .2h earlier. We jumped from 55 to 57 now. Is proper turn 56 coming? If not, we may have to host again and accept the stale turn 56. But it would cause some problems, not just an accidental stale for everyone. I guess there were some important battles turn before. And without getting the turn file, no one would be able to see them and know what happened.

Zeldor April 6th, 2009 02:08 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

Hmm... game status page insists to be on turn57 and it wants to resend turn 57. I asked llamabeast to check if he can get us back to turn56. IF not, we will continue from turn 57 with one stale. But that wouldn't be cool.

PsiSoldier April 6th, 2009 02:11 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

I think llamabeast was saying to roll back to 55 and have everyone resend their turn files and then host again.

Hopefully no one downloaded the new turn and overwrote their old turn and 2h file though. I downloaded the new one but made a backup of my old 2h file so I could go back to it if needed.

That or we just accept the stale and move on.

PsiSoldier April 6th, 2009 02:13 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

On the bright side we would suddenly all have more gems and stuff :D

That and Ive got two turns worth of reanimation.. A little unfair in my favor though since no one else can recruit over a stale turn.

Zeldor April 6th, 2009 02:14 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

There is only "roll back to previous turn" command. I don't know if it could move from turn 56 to 55, but I'm not able to check it, as the game does not want to get back from 57 to 56.

Stale is a stale, but it would be good if people could at least get to see turn 56. For reasons mentioned above :)

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

When this is resolved could we get an admin message sent out explaining what we should do?

b/c I may not be checking the forum with high frequency.

Hopefully we can get this resolved quickly.

Zeldor April 6th, 2009 02:46 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

There seem to be some more problems with that. More than expected. It looks liek that instead of rolling it back server did a double hosting. One or two times. Turns 57 that it's sending away are different from old 57s, and 57s were a stale, so it must have rehosted turn55 on a rollback, which is strange. And it still sends .trn files for 57 even when stating it's on turn56.

I hope llamabeast can get it resolved. And yeah, I will send an email to everyone.

Other games have gone funny too? More than just delayed hosting? Oh dear, I hope not.

I'm actually at a conference at the moment, and it's past my (feeble) bedtime, so I won't look at this now. I'll investigate in the morning. It should be possible to get it worked out, although a stale may wind up being inevitable - we'll see.

I guess Llamabeast hadnt visited the thread about lammaserver before he'd read that.. Although I see he has now.

And here I had skipped school today to look at my Preponderance turn and all. Not really but I did skip school and I was hoping to look at Preponderance at least...

so i have two copies of .trn 57

4error messages
2admin messages

and one proper set of .trn 56?
does that mean that this latest email is good to go and we're back on track and none of that nonsense matters anymore?

actually nevermind the newest files which say 56 in the email are really turn 57 dang so we have three copies of turn 57!!! ahhhhhh.... looks like really no one ever got turn 56 so we needa rehost turn 55 somehow? but now theres a llamaserver under maitencen message? dang

Okay, fixy fixy! You should have got a message from me. Play again from turn 55, and hopefully it will run smoothly. If not, you may have to accept the stale turn.

Zeldor April 7th, 2009 04:00 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

So we are at turn 55. Are there all .2h files for that turn? Can I force host?

llamabeast April 7th, 2009 04:33 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

No, that's the point, you need new 2h files or it'll crash again. I've actually removed the old 2h files.

Zeldor April 7th, 2009 04:43 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

Ok, so players got an email with what to do? Good :)

Hopefully! You should have got one too, if you're playing.

QM says there was no message. And no, I'm not playing. I will send one to everyone.

Submit turn 55 again, making surge to generate it before, right?

atul April 10th, 2009 04:06 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

Well, I think we are. I mean, Prepo hosted yesterday, all was as it ought to be (except those birds flying around in the center but that isn't the game's fault), turn 56 going on and hosting scheduled for sunday. I was actually surprised that Prepo was supposedly the cause for today's problems for some other game, since it worked well yesterday.

llamabeast April 10th, 2009 05:36 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

Ah, great! I just assumed it had crashed because the server got stuck. Hmm, I don't know why it got stuck then - odd.

anyone selling earth stones at a reasonable cost? or trading away pearls at a reasonable exchange rate for anything(better than 1:1 would still be reasonable)? or trading away nature at a reasonable exchange rate for anything?

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

I'm slowly thinking about required modifications of the map. Some Enhanced Edition to use for Preponderance 2. My ideas so far:

- much stronger garrisons for gateways [Ptah + mummies + some nasty mages]
- increased population in caves [10k for entrance, 5k normal caves, 15k for links to other players, 20k for gateways]
- bodyguards for many commanders
- recruitable Seraphs in central island
- some cool recruitables in swamps around central island [modded magic sites], recruitment of devils etc
- boots of youth on old mages

Any other suggestions? Any garrisons need tweaking? (especially those leading to plains)

My map will be hand-drawn scenario for all MA nations, but that's a long time from now. I'm too lazy :)

namad April 17th, 2009 08:10 PM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

i'd recommend in some cases less bodyguards in the garrisons.

a SC doesn't need 15super elite bodyguards in a garrison where they will all autoroute after all the non-guardcommander troops are dead

the specific case i remember in which this was an issue was the scorpionmen bodyguarding some super scorpion king

Make sure it's something that isn't reliably killable with something like, oh say, 20 LA TC Ancestor Vessels.

Possibly afford the inner player an actual income, or even the ability to effectively Blood Hunt - too cool. Also the 95% of nations that currently can't even operate in the caves without supply items, won't fall behind the other 5%, ie - LA TC.

Is assassination/seduction a balance issue as well? I hadn't seen any used on the AI garrisons.

O.O

I'd be careful with this. It's a fun idea that everyone gets guaranteed access to something powerful and fun, but the reality is that one person will likely reach critical mass before his neighbors, and then grab multiple sites before anyone can react. This will likely reliably be certain nations before certain other nations, so will reduce viable nation choices if it becomes too large a power factor.

Very good call.

I was sort of thinking the garrisons holding people in should be stronger too (like the Portals). Have them set to be patrolling, to negate the advantage of stealthing past them. Flight would still be an issue though, not sure what to do about that.

Ultimately, on one level, I think there is too much flavor on this map for competitive play. There are a number of factors that can rapidly domino into massive imbalances, which becomes magnified by relative knowledge of the specific map content. Sure you can argue that everyone could read the .map file, but I'd have to say that while much of this community is at least minimally 'mod fluent', that will never encompass everyone in play - putting those individuals at a severe disadvantage compared to someone who knows where everything is, and what is guarding it.

DrPraetorious April 18th, 2009 10:42 AM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

The ring guardians were not a substantial obstacle to any bless-rush player. OTOH, I don't see how they could have been without seriously distorting other aspects of gameplay. Generally, I don't think that trying to put tough indies on the map is really any protection for anybody.

Did anyone else not get the 12h host notification e-mail this turn?

atul April 18th, 2009 10:46 AM

Re: Preponderance - Big Team Game! [1-2 subs needed!]

I think the notification has either reverted to 8h or been disabled. Might've been so ever since the llamaserver crash earlier.
