Re: Official Image Collection

And about the Image Mod... there are plans to make an Events pack. It will start off with the B5 Mod events, and maybe those 2 from AIC if JLS permits, as those are the only mods currently with custom event pictures. So, go make some nifty event images and post them (or email to admin at spaceempires dot net if you have no web space to post yourself)! Naming format must be in the form of some group identifier, underscore, image name. This is because events can have arbitrary names, so the group name will make it so that there can be several different "Pirate Attack" events, just in different Groups. For example, a Ship Moved event image in the B5 Mod pack would be named "B5_Ship Moved.bmp". No minis are necessary, as there are only 128x128 bitmaps for events. Credits info is, as always, a must. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Official Image Collection

I still think there should be a standard sound FX pack as well... especially since unlike with images, you have to have EVERY sound you're using, even the stock ones, in the mod directory if you have a Sounds directory under the mod directory http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

(I used to have all the SFX from MOO2, plus a few unused ones like a cool electric discharge that they threw into the sound file, extracted with something like LbxEx, but I can't find a working Version of that program (or maybe my MOO2 files are corrupted)... those would make a GREAT addition to SE4's sound library! Stellar converters away! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )

If you or Fyron wants to collect them I'd be more than happy to have the collections available on imagemodserver.

I was able to download it without any problems. I was able to un-rar(?) it with no problems. But when I tried to compress the mod from it's folder so I can put them on floppies, it gave me that error message. So I don't know if it's the mod, or something in the mod that can't be compressed in this method. any clues?

Check the .rar file and see if it has read only attribute selected. If so, deselect it. Then, open it in WinRar and use the ConVersion utility to convert it directly to a multi-part archive. Or get a USB flash drive as mentioned in the other thread. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Official Image Collection

SJ, I just wanted to ask, if I want to submit components for the ImageMod, what format should I use, and how should I send them to you? I'd imagine that I would just make the portraits and zip them, and that you'd shrink them to make the minis (since you're the one keeping track of which goes where in the components.bmp file anyway), but is there some other convention that I'm not aware of? I had some combo colony modules from a while back that I never got around to submitting and I was thinking of doing some warheads, one for each damage type, since Adamant Mod uses lots of different mine warheads, and the patch is going to let us use them on drones as well!

Re: Official Image Collection

Zip or Rar your package, and post it.
You can also upload to ftp://imagemodserver.mine.nu/uploads if you are desperate.

Required files:
- Portraits - obvious
- Minis - either in a "mini-strip" separate files.
(These MUST be in the same order as the portraits, or things will get messy!)
- Credits.txt - write down who needs to be credited for the creation of the images, and how. Text only, keep it short and to the point.

OK, I tried uploading it to the imagemodserver, but I got the same error that I believe you told me to ignore soon after trying to upload it, and I don't believe my connection's that fast, so I don't know if you got it... it's 500K, want me to just email it?

Suicide Junkie December 10th, 2003 04:56 AM

Re: Official Image Collection

There isn't any partially sent file in my uploads folder, so it must not have started properly.
For the upload folder, you have permission to write, but not to read. The complaint Messages will reflect that...

Any way is fine. The direct way is just faster.

Re: Official Image Collection

I've added those components finally.
My only complaint is that the minis for the plague warheads look too similar.

Would it look OK if you made the dark green bits on the base count up the level?
IE: All dark = Level 1
One light = Level 2
etc

As for new engines, how about dual-engines, and oversize engine (something really beefy like what should be on a baseship http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif ) Versions of the drives?
Perhaps some afterburner-style devices that have the various tech level drives sticking out instead of just tubes?

PS:
I've also got another submission in my to do pile, but it has no credits, and I have no idea who it is from.
"Mypics.zip" with 4 components and a number of facilities.
If you sent this in, please speak up.

I would like to point out that when Hadrian left for...umm...disneyland, or wherever, that he left me the rights to use his images in my mod. Now unless you have some arrangement with him as well, that I am unaware of, I can be pretty sure he wouldent want his images going public domain, otherwise, he would have said so. or something. I mean he granted me the rights, and me alone. ^__^ So, sorry, no UM images in the Image Mod.

Fyron December 24th, 2003 08:26 AM

Re: Official Image Collection

Those images are public domain Kodos. They became public domain when they were posted on the internet. Additionally, where does this sudden right you have over Hadrian's "property" have come from? He never said any such thing.

Lord Kodos December 24th, 2003 08:41 AM

Re: Official Image Collection

Fyron. Its not a "sudden right" but one I have had the distinction of owning since...ummm...when Hadrian left for wherever. It was his parting gift to me. If for whatever reason, my word is not good enough, I can get both Dave and Fang Tsu, to come here and personally back my claim

Fyron December 24th, 2003 08:55 AM

Re: Official Image Collection

Their word is not worth much... where did Hadrian allegedly say this?

And even if true, it still does not matter, because those images (as well as the Versions of the mod posted to the internet) are in the public domain already, available for use freely.

Re: Official Image Collection

Regarding adding any images from Hadrian's "Ultimate Mod" to the Official Image Collection.

Hadrian has contacted us (Shrapnel Moderators) and specifically requested the images NOT be included. This is consistant with his past behavior as he has always made it a policy to raise an objection any time his work is posted anywhere without his permission.

I feel this request should be honored, whether or not we personally agree with it. I have neither the ability or the inclination to police the entire internet and make sure that Hadrians work is not posted anywhere without his permission, that's up to him to do. But I think you should request his wishes and not put them in the image pack.

I would also request that we refrain from cluttering up this forum with further discussion on the issue. If anyone has any questions about it, feel free to contact me directly.

If you contact the artist and they give their permission, by all means. But I don't think you should just assume a particular image is ok to use just because it was used in some other mod. One person using it, with or without permission, does not mean anyone can use it wihtout permission.

At least that's my personal opinion. I am not the authority on what goes in the image mod. I was merely relaying the request by Hadrian not to post his work.

I do try to include permissions with all of my work to avoid this kind of thing.

This would be a good example as proof as to why it is a good idea to include permissions, exclusions, and other with any work.

Fyron, I believe in every shipset there is, included a Readme file, did you even bother to read Hadrians readme file? AND, he contacted shrapnels Admins, they too agree that you should not host his images without his permission, or kodos's permission for that matter as hadrian passed the rites TO him, you are out of your juristiction. Every shipset ever made is not your property, its the property of its creators, leave the UM alone becuase you have been asked NOT to host it, by its creator and protector, as well as me and the Shrapnel admins.

And while your at it, remove MY shipsets.. I don't want to do anything that will support your site now, ESPECIALLY since you did not respect MY wishes either in the first case of removing them at the initial upload, and when I told you you could keep them up if you showed a link to my domain, you did not change that either. Take them down now.

GeneralVaugn, we would appreciate it if you would keep your attitude out of the forum. The issue has been discussed and we have made Hadrians objections known. If you have a problem with Fyron hosting your shipsets on his site, take it up with him at his site and not on the Shrapnel forum.

THIS IS AN OFFICIAL WARNING TO ALL CONCERNED. I am going to lock it down temporarily to make sure people calm down. If this thread degenerates any further I will not hesitate to lock it down permenantly. If the petty squables continue in other threads I will ask Richard to lock people's accounts if neccesary.
