Re: Wanted

This seems to be a new problem. The 'two windows' method is not working for me now either.

But this works:

1) Connect to the server <font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>
dom314 -C --ipadr www.evilzombies.com --port 8099 -n</pre><hr />

2) Kill with SIGHUP the pid of the connecting client from (1).

3) Retry connecting to the server, like (1).

This doesn't work every time, but it works 80% of the time.

If you're running Windows I think there is some sort of Task Manager thingy or something, where you can kill processes. So you can try something like the above steps.

Re: Connection Problems

Okay, I'll try again. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

(1)<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>

# dom314 -C --ipadr www.evilzombies.com --port 8099 -n</pre><hr />

(2)<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>

# ps -ef | grep dom
root 23986 1451 2 00:55 pts/8 00:00:00 dom314 -C --ipadr www.evilzombies.com --port 8099 -n</pre><hr />

(3)<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>

# kill -SIGHUP 23986</pre><hr />

(4)<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>

# dom314 -C --ipadr www.evilzombies.com --port 8099 -n</pre><hr />

(5) And if it hangs try another instance<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>

# dom314 -C --ipadr www.evilzombies.com --port 8099 -n</pre><hr />

(6) And if those both hang, kill them and go back to step one.

Or someone with Zach's email could ask him to restart the game server process.

Re: Connection Problems

got an easier method, here is the algorithm http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

1). open Dominions
2). try to connect
2a). If it cannot: do not close the window, go to step 1 &lt;repeat as long as you can connect, it works here with 3 windows open...what times we are living in...XXIst century :/ &gt;
2b). if you can: play the game

Re: Connection Problems

WHAT!!!!!!!!!! THE HELL!!!!!!!! I GOT A STALE TURN?????????????????

Now vanheim just destroyed my entire army.

I would have won that battle because my pretender would have acted as a stone wall at the entrance of the castle and my archers would rain down fire arrows. If you watch the battle that happened outside my castle, my pretender stayed alive for 31 battle turns (I just counted them) after all the other units retreated. this is where I stop playing on this server. It was good while it lasted though.

Argitoth, I gotta tell ya buddy, you are hangin in there pretty good. Gotta admire ya for that. I could never bring you down alone, and it aint over yet!! You still may kick my arse outta the game before you get defeated!!

Good Job!!!!

Thanks, good game. Server error just ruined it for me. I'm confused actually... why was there a battle outside my castle? First there was a province defence battle with 2 of vanheim's mages and then there was a battle with both our armies... two battles... how is this possible? I'm pretty sure I had everyone patrolling last turn and since I staled they were still patrolling, but if that was the case then there would have been a battle WITH the province defence. This is really confusing.

Re: Connection Problems

I was kinda confused as well, as to why there were two separate battles? Was Vanheim's Vanjarl in the province already, and set to attack?? And then movement happened later in the turn?? Obviously, separate nations can cause two attacks in a turn, but this is the first I have seen two attacks by the same nation. I am going with the vanjarl was already in the province and Vanheim set him to attack the province (like stealthy hawks or valkyries), which went first and scared your PD off, then the moving forces moved in and attacked your army which just moved there. Are you sure you staled?? I thought your main army was a province away from your capitol?? They musta moved there this turn.

Yes, I'm pretty sure they moved. However, that doesn't explain why there was a battle outside my castle. I asked on Dominions forum what happenes when you and an enemy movies on a friendly castle. My units should have been inside the castle. As a matter of fact, I proved this is another server I'm playing on.

I know something didn't get registered with my turn because I spent all my gold that turn and now I have 600 gold in my treasury indicating I didn't use any of it. I used my gold to purchase mercs as a matter of fact.

Re: Castle Movement

The two Vanadrotts cast Cloud Trapeze, so attacked and defeated Machaka's PD during the magic battle phase. You didn't stale, otherwise your army would not have moved back to your home province.

Vanheim then owned the land outside Machaka's capitol after the magic battles phase. So our army moved onto your capitol first, and was defending when your army returned. Nikolai explained this in the thread about castle movement:
http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...?Number=581842

As for the gold, if you hire mercenaries, and someone takes the province where they were hired (I'm guessing it was your capitol), then you get your money back. So that explains the gold in your treasury.

Anyway, you put up an excellent fight, especially considering you were fighting on multiple fronts!

Re: Castle Movement

Damn, so I was defeated fair and square. Ah well. Good game! VBF, did you plan that on PURPOSE? If so, good move.

Lol, I feel like you just solved a murder mystery VFB. There was certainly a murder! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Edit: I'm not going computer controlled till I'm completely dead.

Re: Castle Movement

Thanks! It was on purpose, but only thanks to Nikolai, whose forum post provided me with the idea. It's definitely something I'll remember in the future.

And it sure was a good fight. I've no idea why Vanheim's mages kept spamming lightning bolt on your archers though, I had hoped they would zap your god. Plus my 'drotts were supposed to be thunderstriking, and instead they kept spewing out Ghost Wolves, bleh. Vanheim did get really lucky with your archers all targeting their first volley at my poor little air elemental instead of my troops!

Respect to Machaka for fighting it out until the end! I'm sure Vanheim will get a few more surprises from Machaka before it's all over. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
