Ermor\'s going to EAT YOUR SOUL and that\'s FUNNY

Yeah, did someone miss the Post-It note here? Am I the only one that's noticed this?

LA Ermor:
1 doesn't need supplies
2 doesn't need gold
3 doesn't need resources
4 is immune to various things, like poison, cold, lifedrain, quite a few spells, etc.
5 doesn't need a capital, because all their units are summonable or freespawn
6 doesn't *ever* get fatigued.
7 has a whole bunch of other things going for them, like the ability to put their entire economy into castles, PD, amphibiousness, and independents.

The only real reason I didn't make an alliance with Velusion right off the bat is because my giants don't reproduce fast enough for me to stand a chance against LA Ermor in the end-game, which-believe me-would come very soon if we had allied. Some of you might be able to beat the Ashen Empire in the end-game, but none of you could if they had the support of a bunch of massively-blessed Niefels.

And people are rooting for them.

HA I say. HA.

By the time that LA Ermor has been swallowing you the other nations might have means to defeat even large amounts of undeads. There are lots of things in the game that are designed especially for that. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

EA Helhem has declared war and invaded EA Vanheim

To any nation who borders EA Helheim. They are a regional power and that has grown large quickly, and they need to be checked. EA Helheim has declared war on EA Vanheim and invaded sovereign EA Vanheim home lands. This may be an opportunity to take down EA Helheim.

Any nation who borders EA Helheim, please consider your opportunity. EA Helheim has grown very large, very quickly and has now started an unprovoked war with EA Vanheim. They have a large army deep in the south and away from their core provinces. This may be a great time to take them down a notch by initiating a two front war. EA Vanheim will win the war against EA Helheim. EA Helheim will not prevail. And this may be your golden chance to hit them while they are weakened and before they become too large.

EA Helheim will get bogged down and they will be vulnerable for a long time to come. Contact EA Vanheim if you border EA Helheim so that we may begin our war counsel. Bribery and gem trades are also on the table.

Oh! What "massively" boosted ego to lay claim to winning the game already in the first couple of turns! Oh, and that 60 of us only play on by the grace of the "massively" great one who declined to play the winning hand!

And then wonder why people are rooting for their downfall.

Hmmm, much talk of oathbreaking in this world, this is worrisome to us. To any in the future who would consider breaking faith with the Mictlan empire know this - all other considerations will be dropped and every ounce of my considerable resources will be turned towards absolute destruction of anyone who betrays me. I will bribe, beg and bully aid from your neighbors and all will remember for a long time you are an honorless dog who cannot be trusted with friendship. I'll engage in a scorched earth campaign of nightmarish proportions, and your tongue will turn to ash in your mouth. I will gladly descend into Inferno so long as I'm grasping the ankle of the swine who betrayed me. Against that weigh the three turns notice it usually takes to honorably dissolve a NAP, and make sure you make the right choice even if your soul has no honor.

Pan\'s blather

Regrettably, it is true that Shinuyama was forced to break the NAP treaty with EA Pan one month after it was agreed upon. This is not however, because we are oath breakers, rather the opposite. As we explained to Pan we had a pre-existing treaty with EA Ulm which dictated collective defense of our borders. Since Pan decided to launch a war while simultaneously negotiating peace with both Shinuyama and Ulm, we had no choice but to back track in the negotiations.

We have taken an empty isolated province of Pan. For this we feel bad. We have canceled our NAP and will carry out no further offensive actions for the next 3 months. In the meantime, we will send Pan the gold income from said province until the end of the 3 month period, or until the treacherous Pan decide to carry out any actions of their own. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Just curious,

Why does the status page show some people as "Missed a turn" and others as "Turn Pending"? At the pace that this game has been moving I don't think there have been many missed turns.

I have found on mine that sometimes a player will connect and get their .trn file, then work it offline for a later upload. The problem is that the .2h updates when they grab their .trn

Ive had to touch -t 01010101 ea_rlyeh.2h (or whatever) to get the status page to read correctly.

I could tail -1 the game.log and read the connections line.
Er+ Mav+ Ti+ Ca+ Ct+ Ag+ Va+ Ni+ (Yom) Oc- Arc+
to see that Oceania hadnt actually uploaded actions. But thats more hassle then Im willing to do right now.

Not sure if that applies to your script but since Ive been in that boat I thought Id mention it.

Yes, I am aware of this. If a player connects, downloads his turn, then clicks to have a look at his turn before disconnecting first, then uses "Quit without saving", the server will update his *.2h file with the one he had before for whatever reason. If there are other players in the game with their turns pending then that player still shows as "turn pending", but if he was the last player to submit his turn and quickhosting was on, then the game even hosts and that player gets a stale turn. I think that's a bug.

I already have an option in the stats script to generate a pseudo-checksum file with the filesize of the *.2h files to determine if a player really did his turn or used what I described above. This takes care of that quirk.

Re: Pan\'s blather

Players can avoid updating the .2h file by:

- connecting
- entering the password
- watching the turn download
- exiting immediately

Then look at the turn and do your moves offline. This also helps avoid accidentally submitting your turn when you're not finished your moves. Don't reconnect to the server until all your moves are done and you're ready for the next turn, to avoid quickhosting with a partially completed turn.

Micah June 1st, 2007 10:08 PM

Re: Pan\'s blather

Or leave your password blank when you connect to avoid uploading an incomplete .2h, I do this if I want to check the server clock or who's uploaded files. Obviously only works with a passworded pretender...

I declared war around midnight on the 29. Unless I am mistaken, and perhaps I am, that turn processed in the afternoon of the 30. The next turn should have hosted the afternoon of the 31, but velusion reset the server, so it hosted at midnight. The third turn hosted this midnight. I was attacked on June 1. Am I missing something here? Not that I am perturbed or anything. I don't think I would have done anything differently.

Vanheim\'s Prophet\'s Unglamorous Retreat

Vanheim's suprise attacks while Ermor had been at war with Abysia have broken against Ermorian Steel. The cowardly Vanadrott Prophet have fled "unglamorously" from the onslaught of our Vestal Virgins. Who would have thought that such a handsome man wearing such luxurious felts and riding such a big fine horse would run away in terror at the sight of our women!

We shall search the hills and caves and muddy creeks where you are hiding! Your gaudy red cape with golden filigrees are a pain to even dulled undead eyes! We shall follow you to your decadent capital and expose the Vanheim as the foppish effeminates that they are!

Neighbors of Vanheim, if you had a disagreement with the Vanheim before, now is the time to express it while his troops run ragged far from the comforts of city life.

And let it also be known that Ermor has brokered a ceasefire with Abysia. The cost of that ceasefire shall be taken out of Vanheim's lands. Us Ermorians no longer wish to taste the flesh of the Abysian Dragon, as it is probably too tough and gamy for delicate ancient teeth.
