902nd post!

Lookin' good... but how about MY pleasure yacht? Converted COMCA. Has only some space devoted to weapons, but can easily outgun a Capship Battlecruiser. Its shield generators crank out hundreds of thousands of kiloNewtons of impact force. Its regenerators make it nearly invincible. Its armor is utterly impenetrable. And it has a jacuzzi. AND a shooting range for me and my WWI single-shot rifle.

Oh, and I believe I forgot the kitchen..... 1000kT worth of food preparation devices. If I were to use the total kitchen for 24 hours, c.q. if I maxed out food production for 24 hours, the resulting day's output could feed a full Capship Dyson Sphere for millennia.

(note: Capship Dyson Spheres can carry 100 billion population)

Re: The Race to 1k Posts thread.. BYOP!

What? The maximum processing capability for the 1MT kitchens? Pah! The evil ruler laughs at his conversation partner's small mind. His kitchens can process an amount of food worth 500TT of organics. The evil ruler'd like to see 100 billion people eat that within an eon - being 15 billion years, as it is officially. This should be easy, as the evil ruler's people not only have no need to eat organics - no, if the people aksed for it the evil ruler would simply let them starve. He means, who's more important than him? And he needs to be well fed..... *buuuuurp* *loud, wet fart*

Now, to bring the advanced gravitational devices that will bend gravity enough for the evil ruler to get up.....

Here's something interesting.. About the "Views" and "Replies" columns for the forum threads.. Which is a better indication of popularity? Views or Replies? The reason I noticed this is that for some reason my Avatar thread seems to be an odd-ball in that it has far fewer 'views' then 'replies' (I didn't think that was possible since you need to view a thread before you can reply to it.)

What do you people think?

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Aiken March 7th, 2005 05:11 PM

Re: The Race to 1k Posts thread.. BYOP!

I'd say that Replies is better popularity index for older threads (older than 6 months) and Views for newer threads.

From the other hand, best popularity indicator is a thread author's name. Guru's name draws attention automat(g)icaly http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: The Race to 1k Posts thread.. BYOP!

You can stay on a thread for a while and reply multiple times, as I always do, and then if many people do that and make lots of replies, voila, more replies than views.

Aiken March 7th, 2005 05:20 PM

Re: The Race to 1k Posts thread.. BYOP!

No. "Views" function was implemented during last forum upgrade - summer '04. David's thread is simply much much older.

Seriously, I'm not very good at being wordy. There was a poll, TC wanted to know what gun looked best, so I told him. My reply contained everything he needed to know. I could say I liked the military look of it and that it looked dangerous, but that seemed obvious to me.

When this thread hits the big 1k, I hope that I am the one who gets to lock it for posterities sakes. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif If not then I hope one of the other moderators does. I mean how can you surpass the marvle that is this post padding thread? You cannot, so its best to lock it and preserve it for all to read and be amazed by.

Why stop at 1k?

Nodachi March 7th, 2005 09:25 PM

Re: The Race to Infinite Posts thread.. BYOP!

No, it shouldn't be locked. We need to keep a nonsense thread open, it helps to keep the board uncluttered and the other threads on topic (and it's a great place to post a rant or two! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif ). My suggestion would be to rename the thread once it hits 1k.

For example, I like to use this thread to post odd news bits I come across.

Reading this article ( link ) makes me wonder if using carbon armor on my ships would make them immune to APB's. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Aiken March 7th, 2005 09:47 PM

Re: The Race to Infinite Posts thread.. BYOP!

You're absolutely wrong, Nodachi. Only anti-carbon armor will save you of anti-proton beams. But since such anti-armor would interact with normal matter, your ships should be built of anti-matter and have anti-crew.

You know what would be great for the 1000 post. A pic from SEV. Yeah, or even something about SEV.

I vote that the 1000th post be from Aaron himself!! Unless, of course that would take him away from his work on SEV. And that would be bad.

Subject: The bunny and the blonde
Author: Josh Hocieniec
Date: 08 Mar 2005 01:56 AM
A man is driving along a highway and sees a rabbit jump out across the
middle of the road. He swerves to avoid hitting it, but unfortunately the
rabbit jumps right in front of the car.

The driver, a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulls over and gets
out to see what has become of the rabbit.

Much to his dismay, the rabbit is dead.

The driver feels so awful that he begins to cry.

A beautiful blonde woman driving down the highway sees a man crying on the
side of the road and pulls over.

She steps out of the car and asks the man what's wrong.

"I feel terrible," he explains, "I accidentally hit this rabbit and killed
it."

The blonde says, "Don't worry."

She runs to her car and pulls out a spray can.

She walks over to the limp, dead rabbit, bends down, and sprays the contents
onto the rabbit.

The rabbit jumps up, waves its paw at the two of them and hops off down the
road.

Ten feet away the rabbit stops, turns around and waves again, he hops down
the road another 10 feet, turns and waves, hops another ten feet, turns and
waves, and repeats this again and again and again, until he hops out of
sight.

The man is astonished.

He runs over to the woman and demands, "What is in that can? What did you
spray on that rabbit?"

The woman turns the can around so that the man can read the label.

It says...

(Are you ready for this?)

<>(Are you sure?)

<>(This is bad!)

<>(It's definitely a Blonde Joke!)

<>(You know you could just click off and not read the punch line....) <>

(You can still delete it)

<>(You know you're gonna be sorry)

<>(Last chance)

<>(OK, here it is)

It says,

"Hair Spray -
Restores life to dead hair,

adds permanent wave."

As said, a nonsense padding thread is just what we need to cool down a bit, it adds a sense of warmth and togetherness, of deep feeling and an underlying goal to this forum.

Am I making sense or are the stars in my eyes bigger than my retinas already?

The Race To Post-Infinity!

It IS fun..... but I think my version is better. "To post to infinity" is OK, but not special. It's just a sentence. "The Race To Post-Infinity" is NOT merely a sentence. Post-Infinity can mean "beyond inifinity", or it can mean "to post infinitely". No offence NA, but I still like my version better.

The Race To Post-Infinity!

And this also raises another question..... why is the Message Title bar so rarely used? I mean, I've only seen a few occurrences where posts had different titles than "Re:[%ThreadTopic]".

edit: And why does nobody post here anymore? Just post something that replies to something said earlier, start something new or just post something nonsense.

edit 2: Oops, referred to something in another thread here..... corrected now

3: How unlucky you are. You will fail your next action, no matter what.
4: You have been barred from posting for the next 24 hours.
5: You are to delete the next post you planned to make, before actually posting it.
6: You have been smacked down by Narf's Hammers of Doom.
7: You have been smacked by Growltigger. Such things are bound to happen in this crazy universe of ours.
8: You have been cast into the most insane bureaucrary the world has ever produce; motive of the punishment unknown.
9: Roll as many times as needed to get a 6 or a 7.
10: Bah, you cheated! You are hereby condemned to stay within the confines of this thread, ne'er to go away.
