Usually Im cautious but I think this experiment is a winner. We can expect to have at least a mega-game running at all times. Maybe next time with more players and on a larger map.

Re: Is it me?

Agreed, think we need to separate forum messages though...this thing is huge.

I like the auction thread LoloMo put up, think we should separate out pre-game from during-game as well.

Today MA Pangaea reconquested the province that was former annexed by Sauromantia. First the Pans would cede the Province to them, but after 3 Months of rioting Satyrs in our sacred forests, we considered it simpler just to conquer it back.

Midgard

Woe to the aggressors of Midgard who burned our villages, raped our horses, and rode off on our women! Marverni is still holding out against the werewolves. Our Menhir unfortunately got nailed with a lucky spear, and lost an eye. But he will fight on!

Midgard, do you know where the Menhir will smite you next?

Fire the One-Eyed Menhir! For great justice!

Re: Midgard

How the hell can a Menhir lose an eye? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif Can the same happen to the Oracle and Blood Fountain?

vfb June 3rd, 2007 08:28 AM

Re: Midgard

Our pretender's name is Menhir. (Though we are now calling him One-Eyed Menhir, because of the eye loss).

Last time we looked, he was not a monolith. Okay, so our ultra-top-secret secret is compromised, but we are pretty much dead anyway, so it's not that important. Besides, our arch-enemy Midgard is well aware of the true nature of One-Eyed Menhir, and has been trying in vain to blast him with Dust to Dust for a little while now.

Ha ha, missed again! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Yes a fountain can lose a eye, you get, 'lost a unimportant body part', it has no effect on the units stats.

Thanks for letting the secret out of the bag. I was begining to think the Marverni had some super cool low level summons that I didn't know about. I was just about to set up a test game to see it in action. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

So, I am the first one out, right?

I went AI last turn. I gambled for good scales and absent pretender. In the game of rock paper scissors, mammoth wins http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif.

Re: Midgard

Anyone here ever play Empires in Arms? It's a strategic-level Napoleonic game that me and my wargaming buddies back in Michigan used to play. We took longer on the political phase than the entire rest of the turn combined! It was a great game, but a few tempers flaring between people got rather ugly unfortunately. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Some of us moved on to World in Flames (WW2 game) which is less political as the sides are normally all drawn up already. We never did get the Days of Decision political game setup with it to make it more dynamic before I had to move.

Evilhomer June 3rd, 2007 08:47 PM

Re: Midgard

Yes, i'm pretty certain that whomever wins or are around at the of this game will have done a massive amount of scheming for sure.

HoneyBadger June 3rd, 2007 09:24 PM

Re: Midgard

I was thinking of having all the current nations plus atleast 10-12 mod nations (that I'd select myself, was the idea, but we can always vote on them), and play on the big 1225 province map of Twan's.

The only stipulations would be that people can keep the nations they're currently playing, *if* they want to (the rest would go into a pool with the new mod nations), that the nation mods have to already be in existence, and that people can't play nation mods they've created themselves.

I think, in addition to being fun, it would also introduce a lot of people to some of the really great nation mods people have made, and get them using them more in MP games.

If we could set it up to work the way I have in mind, maybe whomever wins this one starts out with the Arena Champion's Trident for his/her starting commander, and along with it, has to compete in the arena when it comes around, as a reward/responsibility/king of the hill-type deal.
If that can't be done, then maybe they'd get first pick of nations, or something like that.

Evilhomer June 3rd, 2007 09:29 PM

Re: Midgard

The current game will take month if not years to finish most likely.

lch June 3rd, 2007 09:50 PM

Re: Midgard

Months, maybe, but not years. This game has the same hosting period like other games, and sooner or later one of the game-ending globals will decide who gets out on top.

About the mod-nations-game, I was thinking about hosting something like that, but then had doubts that the mod nations would be balanced. I'd like a mod nations only game, if you can get together a couple of mod nations that are balanced for playing against each other.

Heh, my two favorite chit and map games! Haven't played EiA in many years becasue it's too hard to get enough adults together on regular basis, and i recently retired from WiFF because i found a better strategic game. Some crapweasel game company got ahold of the computer game rights to EiA and vaporwared it unfortunatly. Too bad, if it were translated right it would be an excellent computer game.

I'm hoping that this game will either get set aside so that a new version can be made, or that it will spawn more games from it.

Partially for personal reasons, I readily admit, because I'm not doing well and everyone hates me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
(I wouldn't mind if everyone hated me, if I were doing better, mind you)

But also because I think that the whole concept has a ton of possibilities and potential for fun, and it would be a shame if it only came around once a year or something, and was only good for a few people for the last several months.

Multiples would be great. Maybe different player modded maps for each? It's a great opportunity to use some of Gandalf and Edi's huge maps, as well as Twan's opus.

There's a lot of opportunity for various types of team-play too, if we continue to use the Megamod.

Gandalf Parker June 3rd, 2007 11:56 PM

Re: Midgard

Ive always said that I felt that Dominions has built into it the ability to diminish some of the complaints. You just have to try out some of the many game variations. Such as big map and more players.

I was considering a game with a bigger map (1500 provinces? the max?), more players (75? the max?) and Victory Points. Possibly also running the map thru the Semi_Randomizer program just to keep it interesting.

Or maybe a designed Helheim/Vanheim alliance of AIs with a big head start and have a game where survival will require cooperation between the human players. Or a modded AI if I can get one.

Ive got games this big that have run for over a year by the way.

Punitive Action

Hear Ye, Hear Ye:

Be it known that EA Agartha is in violation of Code 854, subsection E, paragraph 2 of the codes of managerial conduct in regards to willfully occupying territory adjacent to a sovereign neighbors capital.

Secondly, investigators have noticed dangerous earth reader spoor in the provinces of record. Due to the banned status of these creatures, resulting from the sushi episode of 1308, appropriate fines and penalties shall be applied. Levy of payment will be in accordance of the sushi amendment to bylaw 2480 subsection 8.

Due to these and other imagined violations heavy training exercises will commence at or around the disputed borders effective immediately. Vigilance is recommended as accidental border crossings have been known to occur.

Bug

This is really a bug of some sort. She had a helm and a sheild. the battle replay shows her losing an arm, which explains the shield (after the battle she has both arms, she has recouperation), but she has no helm. What could make her lose her helm?

Good thinking but No shape change. Will post turn file when i am dead, which won't be long. Or I can send it to some third party.

atul June 4th, 2007 10:54 AM

Re: Bug

I think the "lose head item when you lose a hand" disrepancy was to be found in dom2 also. Might find it if you search dom2 forum, something about a Natajara pretender if I remember correctly. A bug, nevertheless. I'd have thought it fixed.

HoneyBadger June 4th, 2007 05:20 PM

Re: Bug

Something else I found out, kind of along this line-if you change shape, you immediately drop all items into your magic item repository. I'm not sure if that applies, if you shape change into something that retains those slots or not, but it's a good thing to keep in mind in a big game like this where we eventually might have units running around with tons of quality gear and artifacts.
