although in canada i'd probably get aressted. someone once proposed the theory that our judges are relaxed because most of them would have been children during the sixties.

If I had sanction to do so, I'd go around busting druggies, the hard, permanent way (for them) if you catch my drift.

im as much against public intoxication as the next guy, and drug use of any form (even you, alcohol, my only real friend) is definitly against the better interests of society.. but seriously guys, what people do in the privacy of their own home is their own business. I dont really care if people like getting wasted, its their health and their life. dont be so preachy.

that being said, yeah, if they are pushing their **** on others and bringing violence and decay into an area, then they should be controlled and put to some practical use. like medical experimentation. prisons are too expensive, sell the ****in crack-heads to laboratories.

test new medical treatments on them, hop them up on experimental drugs and test their reactions to implantable devices or advanced prostecic limbs. let medical students practice operating on them.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Problem is, here in Canada, most of the druggies never even get reported, let alone arrested and tried in court. Hell, where I live, (a tiny town in central BC) drugs are grown in probably half of the houses. I'm in grade 11, and I see about 1/4 of the kids getting high at all times of the day, whenever they have time to do it. It's sick. I think the major problem is that the cops just don't care. They think they can never stop the drug problem, and so they don't even try. Now what's worse than a society like that??

Renegade has a good point too. consider prohibition, most people look back on it as a bad, puritanical idea. this is not entirely true. before prohibition was a federal law in the US, many cities and towns prohibited drugs and alcohol.

keep in mind that this was a time when snuff was legal, a few decades ago England had fought an opium war with China so that they could continue to push drugs on them, and it was very common for a man to get up in the morning and snort an "eye-opener" for each eye, and then maybe one for each nostril. the kind of guy that hits the dope first thing in the AM, isnt going to be the kind of guy to found a business or open a library. so if you outlaw drugs and alcohol, you were telling people what kind of folks you want living in your town.

so yeah, society would function alot better if everyone was straight. but chemical methods of relaxing and escaping are so institutionalized in our society, that its hard to get rid of them unilaterally. and deciding who can use what when and why.. well, you can see how it gets sticky.
