It’s not a notional anthem, but the Battle Hymn of the Republic ain’t half bad, and let not leave out Dixie.

Yes, Dixie is a good one. I got a craving for the anthem of the U.S.S.R. a while back and downloaded it. It's pretty cool too, especially when you have company over. When that tune comes up in the middle of some 'party mix' it's great to watch people expressions as they try to figure out what-the-bleep just happened.

For the 'better anthem for the U.S.' deal I'm pretty partial to America the Beautiful. It's also the only American anthem candidate that was actually written, tune and score, in the U.S. by a U.S. citizen.

>How can you not love a song which goes on triumphantly and cheerfully about "our enemies blood flows freely in the streets"!

When the enemies have traditionality been your countrymen ... :-)

Even though I'm Canadian, my vote goes for Austrailia's anthem, at least you can dance to it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">BTW, after years of experimenting, Russia adopted the old USSR tune, albeit with politically correct words http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Don't be surprised to hear it in next Olimpics.

Oh, and do not innuendo any political overtures - Russia just could not find a better tune despite years of probing and several very serious competitions. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
