Re: score

Hmm... I thought everything in the 'comparisons' charts counted at least somewhat towards score. I'll have to test whether units count towards score. If not, this is a major flaw.

I do know that mothballed ships don't count towards score, stored resources do not count towards score, and resources acquired by remote mining don't count towards score.

Now combine those facts with the units effect (if true) and you can see that it is possible to be vastly more powerful than your score would make it seem. Instead of colonizing resource rich mineral planets, built remote mining bases over them. Especially if they are small or tiny. You'll actually get more out of them than if you colonized! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Stockpile units and immediately mothball built ships for a while. You will have to spend some resources on refitting them to keep them up to date, of course, but you save at least as much on the maint as you spend on the upgrades. If/when you are attacked or need to attack someone else you just unmothball enough ships to do the job (including transports/carriers to haul all those units) and bury the poor sap who got in your way... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Reducing your own score is easy. Mothball ships. Reducing someone else's score requires... compelled retirement of ships. (See above technique... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif )

BTW, for all of these reasons I recommend NOT using score victory conditions.

It is a fun game. But one I am in no way shape or form in the running as a winner for. And I should be. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Stupid experiment in alternate empire setup and economic buildup. A complete flop of an experiment.

My empire is the perfect example of land rich and everything else poor. More planets than anyone cept Maerlyn and 6 to 8 in everything else. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Oh well. Rping a corrupt and ineffective hostile expansionist race slowly losing all its allies should be just as fun. I hate being stuck in a corner.

Re: score

you do not!!! I have more planets! (just)
you just have wwwaaaayyyy more systems. AND I have more population, (even more than Maerlyn)

I think my biggest political mistake might have been agreeing not to colonise systems you already had colonys in.
but that has changed now due to a little inciednt with a certan ship http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

yea I thought of declearing maerlyn as the MEE but decided he was to far away from me
I wouldent get any fun!

An incident that I firmly believe has been falsified or blown all out of proportion for political and territorial advantage! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Yah. My number of systems is crazy. But that's what happens when you have your entire home star cluster and then all of a neighboring star cluster to freely expand through. Heck... I haven't even colonized all the planets with breathable atmospheres yet. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Maybe there is still hope for my empire after all.

Re: score

yea watever.
you shouldent have tryed the "it doesent have wepons! it just has a few guns to shot rocks out of the way" line, and from your empire description I beleved we needed to be rather firm and not give in on this one.
the teritory thing is just a small comensation to us for the lack of trade http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

I am curios though, did you realy not receve our message reqesting you to eather tell us what its design was or turn it around?
that was when it had just left the Sif-Uwana system, aaaagggeeess ago.
is there a known bug in the messageing?

Maerlyn November 28th, 2003 09:42 PM

Re: score

yop, there is a known bug. lots of trades and gifts fail :-( as do some Messages.

BTW, to those I didnt send my Last mail to. (as f.e. Cyrien) I promised to try to stay below 250% power of the second ranked player for the next time. (should I change my mind I'll let you know in advance).

but the cones have given me an idea. maybe I should reestablish all this trade alliances in order to give you guys a good start off (after all, I wanna grow too) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Re: score

I want to know how you did it.
I thought I was doing quite well, but you outstriped me by far.

Re: score

The guns were only for self defense and shooting rocks etc. It was an exploratory vessel, of course it would pass through asteroid belts and need to defend itself. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
And no I never recieved a message asking for the specifics of the ships design or to turn it around.

I have had failed Messages once or twice before in other games... ahh the hazards of interstellar communications. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

I guess if you want to avoid that E-mail diplomacy is the way to go.

Re: score

hehe, the BGNW players totally high jacked this topic http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

so here comes another question. farstryder is back from his thanksgiving thingy and has send his turn already. have we got any news from raskel? is he gone too? did he mention when he will return? would he be very sad, if he, hmm... would miss another turn? (just asking, ok? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )
