But anyways... the few people I know that buy pokemon cards all buy them to play, as do most people that buy cards of card games.

Actually the presence of ebay & other auction sites has made it almost profitable for those people who can get trading cards in bulk & at low cost to sell the more desireable cards Online at inflated prices, pushing the reason behind getting those cards from actually playing with them to selling & hoarding them for personal profit.

If I had a child today I probably wouldn't encourage them to get into Trading Cards, simply because it's ungodly expensive. $5 to get a pack of 6 cards? Sorry, but I'd be better off on getting a kid hooked on Warhammer where you can learn some contruction & painting skills while collecting.

Why don't we try to convince Aaron to sell 3-d pictures/maps of the Ships within SE, along with a brick of clay that we can then mold into the 3-d Ship. I'm sure this would be cheaper than producing pLastic 3-d model kits; plus we can all renew our love affair with clay/playdoh!

I just collected them because of the prospective potential of value...then I got "screwed" when the bottom fell out... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/blush.gif . But, the conventions I went to were mostly dealing with collecting...not playing. Guys (and some girls) rarely pulled them from their protective sleeves. Me included...mine were sealed in pLastic sleeves with a soldering iron and a metal ruler.

could be interesting...but, as someone said, who would you play with?

My main concern is how much would it affect my wallet? I mean, I can't even think about collecting cards anymore, what with them being anywehre from $2-$5 a pack. Sheesh, I can remember when I used to buy a pack of 8-10 cards for a quarter, and there would also be a stick of bubblegum in there also. My, how the times have changed.

Too damn old, that's for sure. (FYI, I'm 41.) They heyday of my card collecting was probably during my school days. I was collecting baseball & football cards from probably the late 60's until the non-sport cards like Star Wars and other movie related cards from the late 70's and early 80's. I may have stayed with collecting them, but I was more into comic books, and I had to quit anyway when I got married. Just couldn't afford it at the time. My, I sure had sticker shock when I tried collecting cards almost a decade later.

I have Star Wars Cards.

I have the blue, red, yellow, green, and orange sets or parts of them floating around some place. Now those were GD cool cards. I can still remember all the buzz that star wars created. What a great movie it was and still is.
