<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Devnull mod gives bases combat movement. Satellites can't be given combat movement. I think someone was tinkering with using fighters as satellites in a mod to get that effect since fighters get 1 movement point even without engines.

Slick.

Re: Base and satellite placement

I feel that Satellites should always be deployed in a combat move over a planet in a plus or cross pattern evenly with the odd number going to the center.

Bases should always have the first fire in combat except against cloaked ships. Cloaked ships should always, regardless, have the first shot in combat, and should be placed close to an enemy world instead of out in the boon docks.

Oh and another thing. Say u have several bases on the far side of a warp point (enemy ships don't encounter them after warping but before) and combat starts.

My understanding is that in such a situation at combat start my bases and the enemy ships are at opposing sides of the map. The question is how far apart are my bases places? Because in the simulator they can be spread all over my half of the map (especially if you have like 10).

I'd hope they get placed closer together in a little cluster or something... say 1 or 2 squares appart. I mean that would be the logical thing to do.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Not really a 'little' cluster but usually close enough together that they can support each other. You know you can make a fleet for bases and keep them closer together, don't you?

Re: Base and satellite placement

No you can't. One of the later Gold patches made it so that bases can not join fleets by default. You have to mod the game to allow them to join fleets again, and this can not be done for PBW games unless you use a custom mod.

Re: Base and satellite placement

Satelite and base placement has always been a problem. Smart placement would be;
2 bases/sats - 180 degrees apart.
3 bases/sats - 120 degrees apart.
4 bases/sats - 90 degrees apart.

So it shouldn't matter matter about approach angle. There'll aways be one with a clear shot.

Same with twenty or thirty sats. Divide the number by 4 and that's how many Groups you've got, not one huge great stack! Roll on SE5 and correct this.
