Re: Drop troops on planet

I'm in one game where I have 5 troop transports drop 100 troops each in an effort to take a homeworld. One after the other, my invaders were eliminated.

So my fleet glassed the homeworld. When will these fools realize that resistance is futile? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Hi Loser. I was thinking that the person was asking the question just about dropping troops on a planet. For combat your comments seem correct to me.

Paul I guess for your ideas you could mod the wp's to have some cargo... which would allow you to house some troops... actually its a good idea... as housing troops is always important.

I do not believe there is a way to trick the game into thinking that a wp is a troop

With the battlestations it could not be done and in reality i do not think it would be an economicay vialble solution.... Lots of spelling mistakes there http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Drop troops on planet

Currently, the number of combat rounds is settable in the config files. But it's only ONE setting. I've heard many people complain that being able to take the planet all at once in the midst of fleet combat is unrealistic. But it's also bizarre to watch combat go on for years of game time if you don't have more troops to drop and you set the number of rounds very low to preserve realism in fleet combat. Maybe there should be two seperate settings, one for fleet combat (very low) and one for 'between turns' combat (higher) so we can have the best of both worlds?

Re: Drop troops on planet

Why? Taking a single country can take many months. Why would taking over an entire world not take longer? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Now, years, as in 5 or more, might be a little excessive, but I could easily see 1 or 2 years going by to root out all the defenders on a large, highly populated world. Unless you want that modeled by the rioting of the planet, but then all conquered planets should be rioting, not just the ones that were rioting before combat ended. Usually the first couple of enemy planets are jubilant or happy when I conquer them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Re: Drop troops on planet

Seems to me that space stations can store and send troops to planets under ground attack, during the strategic orders (not during combat, unless you also have a transport to ferry them to the ground, and are using tactical combat).

It only works for the defender though since they officially own the planet.

As for time needed to take over a planet - many Earth wars have taken years to resolve, involving only a country or at most a continent. High-tech weapons might or might not speed this up, depending on the specifics, and how much destruction the attacker was willing to create.

Ideally (for realism/detail/interesting-situation nuts like myself) multiple nations could have ground forces coexisting on a planet and fighting it out, with control of parts of each planet, and forces able to remain even if one side controls all of a planet. Guerrillas, underground resistance, etc.

That was one of the few good features of MOO3... assuming it ever worked right in that game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif
