Well, you said you did unless I am missing something...

>>if Master & Commander can garner so much attention, and be such a bad movie

If you really don't think it was bad that's fine. Just curious as to why if you did is all.

Hey Gravy, I liked the movie for being a period peace and for the acting. I just found that I liked the acting better in Gods and Generals.

Really the only real reason a movie like Master and Commander would get an Acadamy Award nomination and win is because of the fact that Russel Crowe is such a big star now. That is it.

Gods and Generals will not recieve anything because it did not have a big named star. That is what really angers me.

Now if it had Russel Crowe in it, then it would have received several nominations.

The Academy is very biast.

yeh, I think that's probably a fair point. I haven't seen G&G yet. Hopefully soon.

I think the great majority of critics also did not like the Gods & Generals movie either Atrocities, it has a 8% rating at rottentomatoes.com (that's one of the lowest I've ever seen there!) - the best movie review site there is. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

But that's okay, everyone can have their own opinion!

Still haven't seen G&G. Want to, but now after reading this thread, I just might wait for it to come on HBO before I buy the dvd. I need to get Gettysberg, but haven't bought it yet. And there's the collector's edition for Glory I want to buy also. I did watch Gettsyberg at the theatre, and I did look at my watch. It was a good movie, and we did have an intermission, but maybe they could have done a LOTR thing and made it into 2 movies. My butt sure was sore after sitting through that.

For some reason, when I was going through school, the civil war really wasn't taught. Sure, we studied what led up to it, and the Restoration, but as far as the actual 4 year period with all of the battles, I don't really remember anything from my history classes on this subject. It's not like it could have been a sensitive subject in Oklahoma; after all, we weren't even a state back then, and there was only some small scuffle that happened somewhere in the territory. I've learned more about the war since Gettsyberg came out than I ever did in school. And that's a shame. I wander when my son goes to school, how much they'll touch on the subject.

Re: OT: Gods & Generals + The Acadamy Awards

Oh, Atrocities, one reason why G&G may not have gotten any nominations is that it was released early in the year. Last March or April, IIRC. Generally speaking, the earlier a movie is released, the sooner it's forgotten by the nomination time. That's why most studios save what they think is their best shot for a Christmas showing. I know there are a lot of well-deserving movies that get passed over because of this, but it's the nature of the business.

I still say the Acadamy is a joke.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">You're right about that. First of all, I thought the Academy Awards were for American films. I can see some of the British films that have been nominated in the past as deserving of being included, but why the heck are they allowing obviously foreign films from such countries like Italy being included in the Category as Best Movie? That's why there is a Best Foreign Movie Category. Don't tell me there isn't any bribery going on there. Plus, almost all of the speeches turn into political ones lately. Especially when you get Michael Moore making a speech. I used to enjoy watching it when I was younger, just to see if some of my favorite films would get an Oscar. I might watch this coming one just to see Billy Crystal. But if I do watch it, I don't think I'll enjoy it. It has just become too political.
