Re: How Many Of You

I suffer from "just one more turn syndrome." If I just build that ship or research that tech I will quit. One night I was playing and everything was right with my race. I was ready to go to bed. I played 'just one more turn' and a warp point opens up and out comes a fleet of 40 CueCappa ship in a sector I'm developing. Now how am I supposed to go to sleep?

I think what Iron Giant said is correct. It's the feeling of being immersed in a game and that your decisions do affect millions of people. I one time killed off all of the enemies population on a planet and took a step back and said,"Wow, I killed millions of lives." That's not right. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif
I try to add more way to feel more immeresed in the star trek mods so I will add sounds, music, etc.

I lately haven't been playing SEIV Gold because I been focusing on modding the game. Because I work long hours, I usually try to think of new ways to mod or add something to a mod when I'm traveling between work sites. When I get home, I'll write all of the notes down and then have to wait until the weekend to test them out. I could test my ideas during the weekdays but the wife gets upset sometimes when I spend too much time with the "other woman in my life" which she calls the computer.

When I began playing PBW, it was just wargames. But now, I won't play a game that isn't RPG. What really sours things though (and it's only happened once, thankfully) is when I'm playing an RPG and my enemy is not. Kind of unexpected when a Peaceful Scientist race attacks for no reason other than a miltary weakness was found.

Perhaps they are having political problems at home, maybe a facist group is taking over their government, maybe they're secretly being assimilated by another unknown race. Perhaps it was a misunderstanding. Maybe their conflicting orders when out, your planet was attacked and the current administration has 2 choices: admit the war was a mistake or continue it to the end to prove it wasn't.

Hmmm that Last one has potential...

Im thinking of games in general quite often, weither it be when going to sleep, when being on the toilett or when i need a break from work. Most times about games i recently played, and games you can actually think about (RPG, RTS and stuff)

I either think about the game in general, about tactics and gameplay, and sometimes im even thinking RPG-ish, like how it would be if and so on. I like it ^^

Well, I usually don't go to sleep thinking of the game that much. By the time I quit my session, I'm so tired the only thing I'm thinking of is laying down and to go sleep. There maybe the occassional session, while I'm waiting to go to sleep, that I'll think about. But it's usually during the day that I try to think up my strategies or research projects of the particular mod I'm playing at the time. But no matter what I come up with, my plans usually go by the wayside as soon as the enemy does something. What's that old saying about war? All plans go awry once you meet the enemy. Usually in my case, since I try to build up technology before I face the enemy, I have to build ships and weapons when the enemy inevitably shows up, especially where I'm not expecting them.

After reading all this, I feel very relieved.
All those time I was thinking that there was something wrong with me, and that I had to go to an psychiatrist.

BUT NO, there are other people imaginative about their role's and empires, the whole day long.

YES YES I'm cured http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I think this is pretty much the same phenomenon as when you're working on an important paper, or anything else where you've spent a lot of time and effort on trying to solve a problem. Several times I have gone to bed thinking about a problem only to wake up with an answer.

It also reminds me of certain repetitive jobs that I've had. It sometimes seemed that I never left work because I would end up dreaming about the job at night. One summer many years ago I had a summer job folding and packing swimming pool covers... talk about some restless nights.

Re: How Many Of You

"How many of you go to bed at night thinking about either your single player game or a game on PBW?"

I've done that a few times but most of the time I fall asleep thinking of programming Languages. Particularly PHP and MySQL. I have a few projects in each of those I'm working on so I break down what I am trying to accomplish and then write out the code mentally and how it can be completed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

But in the past I have thought much about my PBW games and so forth.

"How many of you enjoy roll playing your PBW empires?"

I used to not like it, but I'm getting into it now and it makes the game much more enjoyable.
