how about this,.. replace the 'mini' pics of the ships with different sized asteroid cluster bitmaps. When the enemy enters a system, they will just think it has a bunch of asteroid fields. (hehehe, boy will they get a surprise when they try to mine them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif )

It might even take them a few turns before they realise that some of the asteroid fields are moving.

Better is to only change ONE design not very often used, like cruiser design and make it all black, and then only use this cruiser design for VERY special occasions.
I would never do this off course, because it is cheating in my opinion.
