For multiplayer, my favorite mod to play is the DevNull mod. It fixes some balance issues with missiles and fighters, as well as fine-tunes many other aspects of the game.

Well, my guess is that you'll weep when one of these guys comes in on you during a PBW game and glasses your homeworld after you've spent a hundred turns building up your empire.
