Re: Ringworlds

Well, I have built a ringworld! And colonized it too! It does take an immense amount of time, but wow!
I built a couple planetary improvement facilities, a space yard and filled it with monolith facilities. As it ages, it become more and more impressive. (I think the Last time I looked at it was producing 20k of every resource!)

Re: Ringworlds

What did you do to colonize it?

Re: Ringworlds

hummm...

im working on building... *gasp* a sphereworld....

so far ive had to colonize a ton of planets and build a ton of monolith facilities on em

and the mantinence costs dont scare me no more...

9planets x 25monofacilities x 900recorces =

202500minerals 202500organics 202500radi...

PER TURN

=]

but ill tell ya it'll take agood coupla hours and a good amount of population for that puppy....

Re: Ringworlds

ok I have a small question, With Sphereworlds, If you have one, and it encases the sun,(as sphereworlds do) once you build it, technically shouldnt all the rest of the planets in the system change to ice? with the sphere soaking up all solar energy?
just a thought.

Hey, that's a hard-SF question worthy of the good old 'zines of the 1930-50's! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif My semi-hard-SF answers: certainly not if they're inside the orbit of the Sphereworld. And maybe not if they're outside the orbit, since maybe the "sphere" is fairly porous and lets lots of light through (perhaps it's more of a "basket-weave" world than a solid sphere - dunno, never built one http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif). I do like the question, though...

Re: Ringworlds

Well actually if you really built a ringworld or sphereworld there would be no other planets in that system and maybe a few of the surrounding systems in the case of the sphereworld. They would make up the material you use to build it. At least thats the theory I haven't built one in real life yet so I don't really know how much material it would take http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif .

Range Error.
Has anyone had this problem with building a Ringworld? Its so sad to see all my star bases collecting dust in orbit http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

Re: Ringworlds

Is your game hosed after you get the range error? I was getting a range error that hosed the game when I had ship movement lines turned on and I sent a colony ship to colonize a distant planet.

You might want to email Malfador and tell them about your problem (and send them the savegame). I did with my problem and they responded right away.

Re: Ringworlds

from the screenshot i saw, the ringworld is about the size of the sun... on the malfador screenshot page.. and i saw planets around it. thats why I was wondering
