Re: Bug in Fleet Stategic Combat

To answer the questions below:

1. I always use strategic combat.
2. An normal Attach DN design:
Master Computer III
Phased Shield V x 3
Multiplex Tracking V x 2
Heavey Mount Wave Moution Guns III x 3
Heavey Mount Sheild Depleter V x 3
Point Defence Cannons V x 4
Quantum Reactor
Quantum Engine III x 4
Solar Sail III
Remaining Space In Crystal Armor III

An Open Warp, Close Warp, and Repair DN use the same design but sacrifice offensive wapons in the following order to make room for the non-combat components:
Heavey Mount Sheild Depleters
Heavey Mount Wave Motion Guns
On the repair ship ALL offensive weapons have been removed.

In the new game I just started I will not remove the Last offensive weapon from the repair ship design. In testing this allows the fleet to behave correctly.

The draw back of this is that the repair, open and close warp ship are part of the offensive action. I would prefer the leader be picked by ranking the strategies of the ships. For example:

In a fleet containing 15 units:
12 Attack Ships Design Set to Optimum Range Strategy
1 Warp Open Ship Design Set to Don't Get Hurt
1 Warp Close Ship Design set to Don't Get Hurt
1 Repair Ship Design set to Don't Get Hurt

The leader in the fleet would be determined by taking a ship from the strategy with the highest count. This works even if all the ships in a fleet have the same strategy. If more than one strategy ties for first, the leader should be picked from a rank ordering of strategies.

The ships within a strategy should also be sorted to select a leader with offensive weapons, before a ship with defensive weapons, before a ship with no weapons.

Feedback on this proposial would be appreciated, maybe we can present something to MM that would make the fix simple to implement.

John,
I Think you got it. because when I go into the formation text and specifically assign ships to a position including assigning a leader design type in that formatiom, than only the non combatant ship run for the edge. so I think you're right. during strategic combat the computer either through rotates or ramdomly assigns a ship as a leader. But, I get the sence that only larger ships are being assigned the lead position. Anyway Let us know what you find out as well.

Thanks for giving me the infor. Now I have a better Idea about what you are doing. it would nice to see if MM can do something with it.
