The Kings of the Deep get ??, however both skills come in as the same random. IE you get something like air-2 or death-2, never air-1 and death-1. That's what was meant by "linked".

I actually found the Damned Merchant in the same game. I will probably make a sanguine dousing rod then hunt enough slaves to empower a smith. That should do the trick. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

It is incredible. I am ulm...with drain 3...and I lead the world in magic research. Can you beleive it? I haven't even found sages yet. Just using smiths. One of my tricks is to make them get a small amount of combat experience before becoming researchers.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Keep in mind that you have to empower units before they can use dousing rods (no blood magic = no effect). And I also find Ulm Smiths to be very good researchers - pretty cheap, and unaffected by drain... I often take drain no matter what nation I choose. Too bad they can't forge any +research items.
