Re: Newbies Beware...
Well one thing for certain your pretender and prophet being killed outside your domain did not cause you to lose the game. I've had opponents still alive for several turns where they only controlled one province with zero commanders, prophets and pretenders.
Maybe the game had some type of victory conditions ?!?? [ December 23, 2003, 22:04: Message edited by: NTJedi ] |
Re: Newbies Beware...
Im in one where I have no castle, no prophet, no pretender, and Im still in. I think it has to do with the ability to pray the return of your pretender though Im not sure all the criteria.
Having a priest might keep you goind then your pretender dies. Having some dominion seems to be a factor. A temple in a province that can create priests? Maybe A troop that can become a prophet and build a temple in a province that could then create priests? It doesnt seem to think that deep. Re: Newbies Beware...
Yes, but my pretender and prophet were alive and kicking two provinces away from my dominion http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif . I did notice purgatory had been cast at some point but i am not sure. My god was alive but they're were no priests in my domain(s)...maybe that was it? There is so much to this game it's incredible http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif I was Undead against Marignon BTW,but i was NOT killed...just out of my domain http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif Thanks for all your help guys...Merry Christmas! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: Newbies Beware...
There are only 2 possiblities. First, you had "Dominion Strength" as the victory condition. Second - and more likely - there was a game bug, and you should post it in the bugs thread and send your Last trn file to Illwinter.
You do not lose from dominion unless you have zero dominion on the entire map - no white candles anywhere - which was not the case. Priests and temples are not important. You can always appoint a prophet, summon a holy/unholy unit, seduce one, mind-control one, get one randomly by luck, discover a site which gives a temple, get a temple by luck, or whatever... there is never an insurmountable barrier to getting holy units again after losing all of them, mainly because you can always have a prophet... though there is a several-turn wait after the old one dies. |
Re: Newbies Beware...
There are other victory conditions which may have caused him to lose also... yet may be a bug where the wrong message appeared at end of game.

Re: Newbies Beware...
Do the Last turn files exist still? Someone could take a look. If one doesn't pay attention to dominion (e.g. has a lack of temples, which Ermor often does due to low cash), then dominion could fade away while the pretender and prophet were away, especially if something else were going on to reduce it, such as sneaking priests/prophets/pretenders, maybe some global spells, etc., or just dominion spreading effects. This happened to another Ermor player who was about to win but didn't know about dominion.

Re: Newbies Beware...
That is a really odd thing to have happen to you. I've played the game quite a while and have never had that sort of bug.
I agree with PVK...you should have someone look at the turn file. It may be that you are mistaken about what happen. If you had plenty of dominion, though, it would be a major bug that no one else has described here. Which would be quite unusual to say the least. |
Re: Newbies Beware...
I am not mistaken and the victory setup was standard. I always have the same setup/map with Ermor vs. (x)opponent, in this case Marignon. I do not have the save file being that ALL i have been doing since my kids have been home from school is playing this awesome game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif . I don't remember if i ate yesterday http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif ...Anyhow, i have since beaten Marignon twice, always the same save file, and have had no problems. My dominion basically "vanished" because when i "continued" the game, before saving over it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif , my Prophet and God were alive two provinces away from where my dominion WAS...the flags were all white and no candles. I hit end turn and the Game Over message "you have no dominion, etc..." showed up.
