Re: Tip of the day!: Forge Bonus *FALSE*

Argitoth,

For the love of decency try to test out your "Tips of the Day" before you post them. It's bad enough to post false information for 'helpful tips' you don't need to compound it by not even putting forth the effort to make sure it's right before you do.

There are some people here who try to help those who read the forums and answer their questions, not breed misinformation.

By fortunate coincidence, I was able to easily set up a scenario with a N2D1 mage wielding the Cylops Hammer (with the 50 points forge bonus) to test this case.

I regret to say that mangragoras still cost 10 gems to cast.

Your example is not reproducible.

Just tried it with the Dwarven Hammer and that certainly doesn't let you summon mandragoras cheaper.

Thus I cannot verify your observation. It fails all the tests I have subjected it to, and it must be considered a false and misleading statement until such time as you can produce a reproducible example.

Since I would hate to believe that you were deliberately lying just to gratify your own sense of humour, which would make you a low and despicable person indeed, would you care to elaborate under which circumstances, exactly, you have managed to use the forge bonus to reduce ritual costs within the construction path? I am always ready to learn a new trick. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Well I just tested it with a Hammer of the Forge Lord, Hammer of the Cyclops, a Dwarven Hammer, Black Priest, and Master Smith and have not found any of the aforementioned to let you cast Construction Spells of any type for less than it's cost using and wearing Forge Bonus items.

Well, you could have approached it scientifically. You had a hypothesis: That forge bonus reduced construction ritual costs in general. Then you could have tested it in other situations than the specific one that caused you to invent the hypothesis. E.g. you could have tried Ulmish Smiths, or leaders with a Dwarven Hammer, to see whether your general hypothesis did actually hold.

Instead, you presented conjecture as fact, and easily disprovable fact at that.

Actually, it is not buggy. As just tested with 2.08, the Cyclops Hammer does not give this fictional ritual bonus either, not even when making the Mandragoras that were your example.

Nice try. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Ah, well, it sounds as if either

 4. you are deliberately pulling our legs in a not particularly amusing fashion

If only I still had the saved game. But I swear madragoras price was halved, what the hell!!! I'm going to test it soon... but, how could I be so mislead? it's down-right strange.

Re: Tip of the day!: Forge Bonus *FALSE*

I think I know what happened.

I set my mage to forge a thistle mace. Went from 24 nature gems to 19 nature gems (without knowing). Then I said, "Hey, lemme see if the forge bonus works for Mandragora" so I check my gems. 19. Arrite. So I selected the mage to construct Madragora. Then I had 14. 24 - 10 = 14!!!
