Re: TG contest and system facilities bug ?

I had never actually tried using both in a game situation. I was simply going by their descriptions in the Facility.txt file.

Given that the game is giving an additional warning at the time of construction then I will have to concede that it is clearly not the intention of Aaron (regardless of my opinion on whether or not it should work that way) to allow different types with the same ability, and as such it is a bug.

As it is a potentially serious bug as Drake demonstrates I would have to agree that it should not be allowed in the contest.

I went and tested it and see what you guys mean now. The intention is unmistakeable from the message you get when trying to build the second facility.

Also Alyasr and TOMGS were correct. You can build one of each on the same planet and the game only gives you benefit from one.

But if you build them on separate planets, you get the benefit from both. Clearly something screwy going on here that will be addressed in a later patch I am sure.

As Drake says unless we want everyone using the religious tech, you better disallow the practice fo rthe contest.

Well, if you DID allow it, at least it would make race design easy. Anyone who didn't take Religious, Temporal, Organic, Adv. Storage, and Hardy Industrialists doesn't have a chance. That doesn't leave much leeway in deciding anything else. Heck, I say leave it in, I'll just resubmit those Last 5 turns of mine. I always did want to break 300M.

(just kidding!)

Seriously, I wouldn't want to ruin anyone's chances who didn't have religious, especially since TG is allowing resubmits. Anyone with religious could just go back and add the time shrines all over for a big score boost, and anyone who didn't would be looking at a much bigger hill to climb.

Well, 'nuff said. I think I'm repeating myself.

Oh, one more thing I wanted to comment on:

quote:
Once upon a time, Puke said:
if the TS and SRF are not designed to work together (regardless of the bug that lets them) then what is the point of the TS?

Well, I had a huge diatribe on this that I just deleted to spare every the pain of reading it. Basically, there isn't much point except for early cost effectiveness. It's cheaper to research and build. Other than that, no point at all.

All the elements in the tech tree aren't necessarily balanced (resource facilities, weapons, computers vs individual resource bonus facilities, etc) So there's a number of things you could ask "what's the point..." about and not have a satisfactory answer. Maybe someone else can think of something, but it's an aspect of the game I find pretty annoying (though I do like SEIV, don't get me wrong).

I think as the game is set up right now (not including the bug with time shrines) Religious is a good choice for roleplay and to give the computer a small edge. Its definately not an overwelming tech choice like Organic. Its a tech I do enjoy though but they should make the population on a death shrine planet go down. A moble Death shrine in a ship parked over an enemies homeworld would be perfect.

Ok, it seems like there's agreement, it's a bug, and not allowed. That's simple enough.

Thanks for the tip off on this one!
