Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
but what if "my" atmosphere is "no" atmosphere.

Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
Which reminds me
::must fix small bug in neutral expansion pack and add a few doxen more races:: Also, what does happen when you build an atmospheric converter on a gas giant?! Also, think of this. If you race breathes 'no atmosphere' - then they don't breathe! yes no? If they don't breathe, they can live wherever they want, even in a vaccuum!! Think about that! MM sorta messed up ont hat idea unless someone wants to prove me otherwise. And what happened to Chlorine planets? I made an entire SE3 Empire who breathed chlorine, (Go see the UCEmpire @ USy) - I had to make them Oxygen 'gas giant' instead http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif |

B]

Two of the expansion pack neutrals live on "none" worlds The "none" worlds are all vacuum worlds, like our moon I guess Maybe the creatures living on them need a vacuum, for some reason higher air pressure could kill them, or make life harder (explains the lower population levels on other atmosphere worlds). robotic races could survive easily on vacuum worlds. The neutral race you are referring to(Zjirnish or something, can't remember how I named them) doesn't really live in a vacuum but in subsurface oceans. Actually one of jupiters moons, Europa, that also lacks an atmosphere is suspected of having huge subsurface oceans of liquid water, follow this link for more information: http://www.space.com/scienceastronom...an_000824.html About the bug fix for the neutral race, I might do some work on an improved AI for the neutral races after the patch. Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
Markavians: chlorine breathers? Like that "evil" race in EE "Doc" Smiths novels?
that would be a great idea if we could setup a chlorine breathing race.... This started me to thinking (VERY dangerous!). Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe "all" one would have to do is modify the following files with the correct settings are the SectType.txt file (to include the planet size/atmosphere), SystemTypes>txt data file with a line that adds chlorine atmosphere and then some .bmp of chlorine planets to the planets subfolder in the picture folder. The first two would be fairly easy...that Last one not sure how to include the .bmp to that compiled pic .bmp....anyone know how (size of the planet pic for that?)? ach, don't have to add any pics; just calls to green ones already there, just have to make sure they go with planet size http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif [This message has been edited by pathfinder (edited 17 February 2001).] [This message has been edited by pathfinder (edited 17 February 2001).] [This message has been edited by pathfinder (edited 17 February 2001).] |
Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
I don't think you can actually! I believe we might have to wait until the next patch is out.
a while back when I was making my first SE4 PLanets extension the game crashed when I changed those settings. |
Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
yup, I tried adding chlorine as an atmosphere but, while it didn't crash, it DID come up with nothing loaded but the credits and the exit button. DOH!
I did email Aaron/MM to see if this maybe considered sometime down the road http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif |
Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
Hmm, has anyone experimented with swapping planet types and atmospheres on the research trees & colony components? I'm just thinking that it would be more fun to have 5 colony types to research instead of only 3. Right now, sure they're expensive, but I steal the tech anyway and it's really fast. More variety could be a lot of fun. PRobably be to hard on the AI though.

Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
Yep. Folks have tried it and failed. I'm thinking that Rock, Ice and Gas Giant are hard coded into the game engine someplace.

Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
ack, can't be done Nyx. I emailed MM/Aaron yesterday and today he respponded. planet-types and atmospheres are hard-coded into the game. oh well, I wouldn't call a change to that a prioroty at the moment. Might be nice sometime in the future, IF he has the time.

Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
Yeah, it's not a big deal, especially with that option to ban colonizing worlds other than your own home type and atmosphere. THAT's going to be really interesting!
