The other issue he might be concerned about is that large maps are graphically demanding. The Dom2 graphics engine is very inefficient due to being written for compatibility, not performance, and a laptop GPU may not be up to the task of rendering very large maps.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Maybe - but the map display doesn't seem (on my system) to be a bottleneck, nor should it be. I wrote graphics engines to display maps on Unix and Windoze (raster and bmp file maps), and only needed to implement tiling for maps over 50 megabytes in size.

I think it's more likely to be the between-turn processing - but then, I haven't tried on a laptop, so you might be right.

Waiting to hear from him, or others who have the problem with large maps.

Caine is right it is more of a CPU calculation hog issue so I should be alright. I just wanted to try out the map first in SP mode before I commit to a Multiplayer..but what the heck. I would like to claim Tien Chi. Any way I can lobby for the Natahara to be available for vanilla Tien Chi?

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Cool - glad you'll be able to get in the game then. I probably would myself, but (guau!) I'm moving in 7 days, and still have way too much packing to do before I vacate. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Shouldn't think the Nataraja should be prohibited for T'ien C'hi - that nation almost always winds up one of the earliest defeated in most of my MP games that include it. Needs all the help it can get, and if you think a Nat is the way to go...

But I think Cohen made his house rules? Hopefully he'll see reason.

I tried to differentiate Pretenders, assigning them thematically, trying to avoid to repeat them more than twice, if not at all ...

All there my houserule.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">If you're saying that you're trying to avoid having a whole bunch of any particular type of pretender, I don't think you have too much to worry about with the Nataraja. (Yes, there was apparently some furor about the Rat, er, Nat, being over powered, but that was patently untrue - until the very late game, only Arco can really capitalize on a Nat.)

If anything - T'ien C'hi should be allowed a Nat, and not Arco, because oriental mythology is full of 4-armed deities, and T'ien C'hi is the only nation that really reeks of being oriental. (More Chinese / Buddhist than Indian / Hindu, where a Nataraja would be 110% thematic, if only it were female, but....)

And so - does "All there my houserule" mean that he can't take a Rataraja? (It isn't quite a sentence in English - please explain.)

And no - I ain't him. I ain't Norfleet either.

And I for samn dure ain't Stormbinder!

(Who is more likely to be Norfleet than anyone else, really, given they both have such a monomaniacal insistence on people not quitting games... *grin*)

Oh, and when is this game scheduled to start? In one week exactly I'm out of the loop for as much as 5 days or a week, otherwise I'd be looking to join in.

Seriously Cain, I could almost find your fixation on me to be pretty flattering, if only you had a different gender... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif
