The spell text actually says "The caster creates a huge ball of fire in the sky. This second sun will always shine, day and night, ..." But of course, a huge ball of fire COULD emit mainly IR light... OK, this is getting silly http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Utterdark and Second Sun
Actually there would be nothing inconsistent about a patch of darkness blocking visible light and heating things. It is happening even now for real, ever heard of pollution?-p Some studies say the world has become dimmer for it in recent decades, and... ...I think it might be best not to discuss global climate change on public forum in internet... I've seen where it can take you.
Dark things absorb visible light and heat up, releasing IR radiation. All very real-life physics, not many inconsistensies. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Except, of course, that magically created second sun and forced eternal darkness. |

Re: Utterdark and Second Sun
Looking at it from a more fantastic and magical way, I think it would work like so:
Utterdark forms a shield around the world to keep out the sun's rays. Second Sun, after it's cast, may do the following... A. Overpower Utterdark. If a mace struck a shield enough times or hard enough, it will splinter and shatter, so Second Sun would dispel Utterdark. B. Be blocked out by the shield, so Utterdark dispels Second Sun. C. Since Second Sun is a FIRE spell, dealing with heat, instead of an ASTRAL spell, dealing with light and celestial bodies (sounds like a description one might use in a porno... *shrug*). It wouldn't conflict in anyway with Utterdark, making it, in the words of Cheezeninja,"dark and hot... extra crappy." |
Utterdark and Second Sun
How does these spells work toghter?
Second Sun should improve the light of the world, making night disappearing. Utterdark mantle the world with obscurity. They contrast? |
