Yes, they are, which is why I stole them, kind of.

I thought people would like the second one better; new textures instead of those old DoGA textures, I guess I was wrong. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

I like the top one better. It looks more metallic. The second one looks too dark and purple.

Too much purple...

Again, TC, the 2nd one's textures are better. It is the specific color combination that is bad...

Re: Texture comparison

I'd have to say I like both of them. I'm not sure which is 'better' though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif Each has some of the qualities needed to make an 'ideal' ship texture.

The 'plain' grey one does look like a more realistic color scheme for a spacecraft, but the dark grey/purple one is much more detailed and that gives it a 'real' feel as well. The lighting is better, too. Can you introduce more contrast into the grey one? The nose ought to darken on the side away from the light source just like it does on the second one.

If you could increase the lighting/shading effects on the grey one, and possibly add some more detail -- if the shading effect isn't what brings that out -- I think that would be best. Maybe if you convert the 'purple' parts of the second one to the same dark grey as the main body of the ship...

Maybe a recolor to a reddish color on the bottom one.

Here is my rendering of TC's model with my own texture and background. (I turned his model into a 'skimmer' and placed it on a methane planet.)

while you wait for me to re-upload my rendering, here's an avatar Version of the pic...

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

P.S. Comments welcome.

Edit: Grrrrr. Richard asked me to delete my Posts to keep the upload forum cleaner. but when I delete the post (after posting the 'uploaded pic' here.) it deletes the 'attachment' and the pic here gets killed. Grrrr. Got to re-upload now.
