Re: Apologies
I cannot believe that already, in the beta, we have cheaters! I mean what in the hell is the point of buying a game when you know that there is cheating in it right out of the box. They have the Speed hack, the invicibility hack, and now the never miss hack. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
For the love of God, can't a game company make a game that is cheat proof for Mulitplayer? Chalk Tribes Vengeance up to another game that has been ruined by cheaters. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif:(:(:(:( The Beta is only four days old already and they are cheating. I am so discouraged and upset over this that I am thankful that Space Empires is pretty much cheat free. Thank God for that. |
Re: Apologies
There is also a difference in player's style between Space Empires and realtime multiplayer Online games. I doubt there would be such a widespread abuse of bugs and cheats even if they would exist in Space Empires. While in the TV kind of games there are a lot of kiddies who's main and only fun seems to be to invent and use cheats. Not that the game itself is bad, it just also attracts another kind of player base.
But I am surprised that the programmers obviously have not thought of cheating and cheat-protection. Where have they lived in the past 10 years? This is a well known problem, and the main problem - as you said, games can be totally ruined by cheaters, despite their overall quality otherwise. They surely will patch the biggest holes, it is still beta after all, but it is very difficult to make a game cheatproof that has not been designed against it from the very start. But - I must admit that I have kind of mixed feelings. Sorry that a game you like has been ruined, but happy to see you back in PBW http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image.../beerglass.gif |
Re: Apologies
Umm..... is not the goal of a beta tester to break the game in every way they can, so that the programmers can fix the problems before the game is released? Shouldn't it be a good thing that people are looking to make cheats now, so that they can be patched out? As long as the game developers are willing to patch out everything that is found...

Re: Apologies
Yes, it is the goal to break the game, but it is also the goal to REPORT when you have done so, so that it can be FIXED, and not continuously EXPLOITED.

FOR THE RECORD
This is a PUBLIC beta. Therefore the sender of the email that was sent to me accusing me of violating an NDA can kiss my spinfuser. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image.../firedevil.gif You know who you are..... And no, I was not in the SEIV beta. (FYI, Your email came back as a bad address.) |
Re: Apologies
Well, thanks for the heads-up. Could you post another one if they do make a concerted effort too patch the holes, please?

Re: Apologies
It has been posted that the problem might have just been some admin testing out cracks in the programing of the Admin functions of the the server. Riiiiiiiiiiiigggggggghhhhhhht.
And if you believe that, I have some nice water front property to sell you on Mars. Or as we like to refer to it, Sol IV. |

Sad - the first step to magnify a problem into unsolvability is to ignore it or to deny that it is existing at all. |
Re: Apologies
An interesting thing just happened. Ok I am on a hill side, in the kill zone of one of the beta maps, I look over onto another hill side directly across from me and what do I see, yup, every snipers worst fear, another sniper looking right at me.
Without millisecond to waste I press the left mouse button and from my evil looking sniper rifle erupts a burst of red energy at the very second my enemies rifles fires. I see this and side step just as he side steps and each of our rounds zip paste each other’s head. We fire again, and once more we side step. We fire again, although my round was decidedly faster out of the barrel than my opponents, we both still missed one another. This went on for about a minute until we both just had to laugh. There we were, two dogged opponents, both determined to wax the other, and all we could do was send message back and forth about how pathetic our sniper rifles were. We elected to duel it out with spinfuser, (Disk launching weapons) and to our mutual surprise, we killed each other in short order. With this, I dub the Sniper Rifle of Tribes Vengeance, Sir Suicide Rifle. |
Re: Apologies
Sounds like it's more like a Put-Put rifle.
