Re: Thanks Mose Hansen!

Could someone post what is needed for something like this?
A program, a computer, trickering the firewall? Something else?

Would a computer that is too slow to run Dominions II (battles) be enough to act as a server, old 200Mhz one as an example? Maybe not running as many games as Mosehansen's server does/did, but how many could it have running then? Would having the computer on be enough, or would the manager have to tinker the games all the time?

I don't have a free computer anymore, and it might have been too slow, but having it all up on a stickie or maybe on Illwinter's pages might eventually make someone do something...

From the README file of the Dom2Host package::
REQUIREMENTS:
mysql
Dominions II
Perl
Apache

Note that it does not say it must be Linux or Windows. As far as I know both will work altho I know MEH used Linux so some of the scripts might need small modifications.

Generally thats a true statement. It actually takes about 1/10th the computer to server something as it does to create it. Most of the hard work for Dominions is done by your home machine. The hosting might not be FAST but if its running at midnight on a dedicated machine then who cares anyway? Believe it or not (and this IS my area) your home computer can probably replace your internet sevice providor.

Ahhhh now there is the kicker. If you look at the MEH server thread I think you will get an idea of what that would be like.

Only Sheap is left as a host for big MP games that I know of.

Sheap's server is in fact still open for business, regardless of the fact that Sheap's work/school is massively interfering with more important aspects of life (like dom2!!).

I am currently administering the games on his server and can help people who are currently running them and/or wish to start new ones. I believe there are currently 2-3 slots open there but sheap has not installed the 2.14 patch as of yet. He told me he'd get to it this week, so if you are want to host there, just send me a PM.

Re: Thanks Mose Hansen!

Hey folks,

since the other thread is locked I'm going to reply here. I recently bought a new server that would be more than adequate to run Mose's code. It's a 2.4GHz, 512MB, 320GB RAID5, dyndnsed box running Debian stable. I would be willing to setup the frontend but my time is very sparse at the moment. I'm going to contact Mose about how much work this is to set up...

Rock on,

Michael
