Sight. Beleive me you'll miss that when its gone.
Gun rights, if the Democrats and gun grabbing - tell people how to live - uber left wing dark side liberals get their way, we will all be living under UN control and doing the goose step to a new Hitler dictator of the world. No thanks. |
Re: OT: The Things We Take for Granted....
Technology continues to climb but we are nearing the peak of many other things. I remember my great grandmother talking often about "when I was a child we didnt have", less so from my grandparents, hardly ever from my parents, and I feel very little need to say it to my children (except with technology of course). On the other hand, I hear more often "when I was a child we DID have" and I think that will be increasing in my kids to the grandkids, and them to their children which I might live to see.
For one thing, my table grace is along the line of "thank god for the variety of life which has given itself to my meal each day". Yes its rather druidic. But it serves to remind me and make me thankful that my meal includes so much. Foods from all over the world, any single part of it was at one time the ENTIRE diet of some group of people who were thankful of an ocassional change. We are unlikely to discover new foods now, but we are very likely to lose many. And thats just one of many areas which we may be telling our grandkids "I remember having..." Be thankful for bananas, songbirds, water, and beef. |

It's a nice thing you say, GP, whether it be druidic or not. |

And AT, cheer up for Gs sake! My grandfather had a colourful expression I hope I won't get in too much trouble for repeating here: "Life is like a dirty whore. It's the most beautiful thing, you just gotta look real hard to see it." |

Well, I hope that hospital stay wasn't related to any liver problems. One of the possible 'side effects' of cirrhosis is night blindness. It has something to do with a missing liver enzyme. Remember the thread title and don't hesitate to go back to the doctor. (Erm, does Ireland have 'national health insurance' of some sort like most of Europe? I hope it's not a 'pay your own way' place like the US...)

Re: OT: The Things We Take for Granted....
I recently had laser eye surgery, allowing me to see unaided by glasses for the first time in about 15 years. I finally have good peripheral vision. I no longer take it for granted.
