I'm still looking over the different mods, which will probably be a project for awhile.

Welcome! I haven't been around as long as these cats, but would recommend Fyron's Quadrant Mod as a starting point. FQM irons out a few problems without changing the basic nature of the game.

Just remember to get the image mod packs including - component, facility and planet packs. All of these can be found at spaceempires dot net. Look at the grey bar at the top at the hosted sites buttons.

Thanks everyone!

Wildcard, I've grabbed all the image mod packs, and have put them in. I'm still figuring out which mods actually make use of them.

Doesn't matter. They don't replace the standard images.

Hiya VD(!), welcome to the forum from another relative Newbie~~~

You might benefit from reading the budding thread "Some Component Questions", as I'm only a few steps ahead of you with knowledge of the game and I've asked some questions that you will probably bump up against pretty soon.

See you in PBW soon I'm sure hehe...and btw...I'd just throw myself into a newbie game...you will get your arse handed to you, but many questions will be answered, and you will see just how different it is from playing solo in terms of movement structure, communications, etc. My first game was an eye opener for sure. If you have the right schedule, a game called "12 Hour Onlslaught" is looking for a couple more cannon fodder (hell I don't want to be the only one! /grin)

Thanks for the advice on the component question thread, that was pretty good. After I get my home server clean I'll try that newbie PBW with you so you won't be alone.

It really sucks when viruses keep you offline at home...
