Well I hope your game comes soon. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Nothing like playing beyond that 100 turn limit that sustained us addicts from August 2000 until late Nov 2000 when the game was finally released. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Mine all WPs, especially the unstable ones as - especially in MP games - that was where I'd expect an attack to come from. Nobody would suspect an assault fleet entering your home system trhough a damaging WP, so almost nobody creates adequate - or even ANY - defense arount them... so I'd launch an attack from there. Post guard stations around the stable WPs. If there are only useless systems nearby, and you've got high-lev Stellar Manip tech, make them into black holes and post guard mines AND sats AND stations on the WPs leading there.

Also, another tactic could be:
Take out all WPs to your system except one, then build a System Stellar Manip Shield to prevent further WPs being opened. Make sure the ONLY entrance to your system leads to a black hole and manipulate the WPs and systems according to approximately this layout to assure maximum safety.

It all depends. Imagine a small planet with about 1% for organics but covered in farms that the AI has built for some reason.

I'd glass that planet, mainly on the principle that I don't want people that stupid in my empire http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

So scrap them for free minerals and rebuild? No sense devaluing the other values by 10% from glassing and wasting the free people and free colony. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I usually don't wipe out those enemy aliens completely. I try to capture some of the aliens before I exterminate their empires, and I keep a biological santuary base where I save a 100 or so of each race. They are used in our genetic experiments, biological weapons research, and testing our cosmetics and shampoo products.

Yeah, they might be stupid, but so are mules. Mules are still good for manual labour. Whoever said the conquered would be fully integrated to the empire? My empires always consist largely of slaves, with a small number (perhaps ten million once the galaxy is conquered) of overseers handling the thralls. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

When I played, I also used to change the setting that altered damage weapons do to planets. I think normally it was something like 10 damage points killed 1M population, I had it set to somewhere around 10000 / 1M. Then you have to either capture, spend a loooonnnggg time pummeling the planet, or blow it up, Death Star style.

Re: Genocide

I agree with Will. I think the default setting is unrealistic, that a escort with a Depleted Uranium Cannon (DUC) can "glass" a planet, especially a largely populated one. But how does one change it to what Will said, and make the damage to the planet per weapon lower?

Re: Genocide

In the data file "settings.txt" you will find the following line:

Damage Points To Kill One Population := 10

If you raise the value, it takes more damage to kill 1M population.

a race so far from perfection is no worth to be assimilated. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Anyone know how much damage it takes to destroy a facility?

Re: Genocide

Be aware that any weapon will still be able to kill at least 1 million population per hit, no matter how high the setting is...

Anyone know how much damage it takes to destroy a facility?

I do not believe there is any such formula. It seems to be more or less random as you slowly wipe out the population.
