Video creation software generally doesn't use your video card, oddly enough. Its all down to your CPU and RAM.

I love my Geforce 6600 256MB AGP card, I have it over clocked and it kicks ***. If you already have an PCI-E 16x slot or are buying a new computer. A PCI-E video card is your best bet.

I built a new system in May '05 and got a PCI-E (X800 XL) card. That being said, the only problem I have had was due to a.) making sure the power supply could handle the card (had an extra 4-prong attachment) and b.) the motherboard would work with it ASUS A8N-E (I think).
