Just on a topic. I really don't trust Strategy First... they're marketing Uplink: Hacker Elite... yet on the main uplink site (Hell, the game isn't even called Hacker Elite on their site) I see no mention of giving them rights or anything to Strat1st.

Another couple of things, their games are pretty... well... ****ty. There, I said it.

I don't know, just don't trust 'em.

Edit: According to some people on the Uplink boards, Strategy first really shafted them and wouldn't pay Introversion AND sold 'budget' versions in jewel cases without Introversion's permission.

Well I gave everything I am involved in a quick introduction on there.

I don't expect to be posting there anymore. I don't really like S1st. They don't let people use custom avatars and the forums seems low quality in general. Shrapnel will remain my home as usual. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I don't have any experience with Stategy First (yet) but I have with Shrapnel and their customer service and support have always been excellent. That MM has changed the publisher made me feel uncomfortable and I am sorry for Shrapnel.

Funny you should say that, my friend passed me this game along and it's quite addictive.

Nowhere near up to par with my favourite games (SEIV, Freespace 2: Babylon Project) but it's kept me from staying bored while ill this week. I'm not really a major gamer though so I haven't heard any reservations or horror stories about Strategy First.

Still, I think it will take a lot for Shrapnel to lose it's position as a "wretched hive of scum and villainy" (well, ok, maybe that's just the cantina http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif) in many of our hearts.

Part of the automatic downside for a "shelfware and advertising" publisher over an "online and publicity" publisher, is the payments. There is much more money put out by the publisher for doing shelfware and advertising stuff which has to be paid back before and profits are seen. And the number of sold units is hard for an author to find out. So there always seems to be a problem with what appears to be a popular selling game not producing any checks to the creater 1, 2, even 3 years and then it only trickles in.

Malfador might gain new recognition from all this. I wont knock his decision, and I wish him well. But I do think he might consider cashing in on the new player base while shifting back to the more comfortable payback system by doing SEVI at Shrapnel.

Im not sure if the forums are timing as much as they are shamed into it. Was I the only one that pestered them over and over till they put some forums in?

Of course they might also have been waiting for Aarons answer on whether or not he was going to do his own or declare a fan site as the official forums. Strat1st seems to prefer it that way.

One thing I've noticed is that I've seen more of us over at the Strategy First forum then over here today - or at least by comparing # of posts.

On a good note, it's already starting to attract some new players to the game which is good news. I've also seen a small spike in visitors to my websites as well as SE.net!
