Re: Dominions 3 - FAQ

Yeah changing lands based upon heat/cold scale sounded neat. Perhaps they just havn't gotten to implementing that, although I seem to recall them saying it won't happen.

Re: Dominions 3 - FAQ

In Dom:PPP, the map consisted of pixels. There was a color for every type of terrain. The pixels changed colors under the effect of scales and dominion. Income, population and resources were counted from the pixels (at least initially, I don't know if they were totally recalculated every turn). Storing lots of pixels isn't very effective way of slowly changing the world, and those maps were ugly, and DomII has and DomIII will have terrain-spesific sites and events, and special effects for spells (Howl), and hopefully lots more... But still, it was nice to be able to know a Cold nation started in Britain and a hot one in Scandinavia when the map changed towards white and yellow accordingly.

Re: Dominions 3 - FAQ

Thank you much for the info folks. This board seems to have a very helpful community that quite frankly has helped me considerably in getting started in this game. And while I have just begun to scratch the surface of this rather deep game, I still find it very encouraging to hear that the developers are still working to improve and evolve the system. And I too would rather see the devs working on what they want to do rather than have to take time out to write a regular diary...but I do like reading them and getting a peak into the creative process. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Have you seen Gandalf lately? I don't remember reading his posts for a while. However, I checked the comp.sys.ibm.games.strategic to see what people said of DomII to get PCarroll (Newbie's first impression) in here. I browsed a thread of "I don't like FPS, I don't like MMO*, is there any hope", and found this:

Hmm, this boards up-to-datiness seems to fade... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Any insiders still around?

Dom III is still cooking merely away. I'm not sure if you'd say it is in beta or still alpha, but a lot of work has been done already. It is looking really, really good. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I can't really say anything specific, I'm afraid. Well, except that I do believe the wishlist has been helpful. Anything that provides insight into the player's experience is a good thing!

Do we have any idea yet when we can be looking forward to the game. Is it a Late 2005 game or into 2006 (early/Mid/Late http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif )
