Of course it's not a waste of time. Where else can you get training for the day when you become High Emporer of the Galaxy? You don't think they take people for those positions with no experience at all do you? It's not exactly like you can take courses in Inter-Species Negotiation, Physics of High-Energy Particle Zero-Gee Combat, and Advanced Megolomania at your local community college.

To determine if any activity is a waste of time, you must first determine your priorities. This can take some time. A lifetime, to be exact.

There are arguably worse ways to spend your time.
