Re: OT: If you lead the world, what would you do?
There's no system out there which can replace copyright. Just limit it to the life of the artist or forty years, whichever is longer.
Also, disolve coorperations entirely. The're inefficient at producing an economy. Also, cities? Bad idea. The crowding leaves people feeling disconnected and irratated. And speed research of electric cars. |

I would implement Soylent Green. Then I would let everything else run by itself.

Re: OT: If you lead the world, what would you do?
First, I'd create a huge inescapable 'camp' called Super Happy Fun Land. Then, I'd take the entire leadership of any body of authority (governments, religions, corporations, etc) and stick them in Super Happy Fun Land.
I would then inform the population that the remainder were free to reform said organizations by having those who wished to lead them stand for election. Everyone who stood for election would be publically shot. Then, I'd do the same thing again. And again. One more time. And one more for the road. At this point, the population would have come to the realization that governments, religions, corporations are a bad thing, and certain not worth the hassle. I would then issue a proclimation that every person on the planet is responsible for everything that they do, or have done to them. Total, absolute responsibility. The words "It's not my fault" will constitute a capitol offence (if it's really not your fault, whoever is responsible will take responsibility, ergo declaring something not your fault can be nothing other than an admission of guilt). Failure to live up to your responsibilities will result in you being sent to Super Happy Fun Land. Then, I'd retire to my harem of Android Slave Girls. Oh, yes, and I'd have someone invent Android Slave Girls. |

Sorry, had a sarcasm attack.

Re: OT: If you lead the world, what would you do?
Ever read Brave New World? Kinda like that. Most of the population kept doped up and happy; western governments are almost there with "reality television", but I think they'll need a little chemical nudge to complete the process, and cancel out any of the "news" or "politics" nonsense that may slip through. Most efficient distribution method would probably be via the water system, but methods to deal with anyone who uses well water or buys bottled water will have to be found; probably could just spike the bottled water supplies first, then the general supply, since everyone knows that people who drink bottled water are loopy anyways, so no one will notice. Once this is accomplished, the time to begin labor restructuring begins. First, round up everyone with a useless job in regional processing camps. All politicians, lawyers, business executives, "celebreties", telemarketers, journalists, writers, and artists will be rounded up, given a few extra hits of the happy drug, and sent to the camps. Those that are deemed capable of doing real manual labor are then assigned to new jobs in agricultural, janitorial, construction, etc., and others are sent off to help make even more reality television. Everyone else will be shifted into the areas in and around major cities. To facilitate the move for those too attached to "home" for the happy drug to overcome, there should be some kind of plague where the cure can only be had at the major cities; once you come into the city though, you can never leave. Brave New World has genetic classes of people; I think this is too hard. Instead, we'll just pump the unhappy ones with so much of the happy drug, that they will soon become so baked that even if they're sober, they will be incapable of thought. The stratification will then occur naturally. Once everyone is kept within a certain area, individual vehicles will become unnecessary except for the few in addition to myself who run the show. You can walk to anything you need, and can take public transit if you want to go elsewhere. Ixnay on the asgay, no oil problem. Also, once everyone is in a confined place, it will be easier to implement population control measures; six billion is far too many, but I could get it down to a more managable two billion in a few generations by throttling back the birth rate and eliminating any who can no longer provide any value to the doped up society. If a reality television star loses popularity, the only humane thing to do is make them OD. Same with elderly, disabled, and terminally ill. So, within about 30 years, birth rates can be brought back up to stabalize the population at around 2 billion.

PvK is right though. If we keep trashing our environment the way we have been, there will come a point, in the not so distant future, where the damage will become so great that it cannot be undone.
I believe that the planet is a living breating thing that is changing and aging around us. We don't like to see these changes as they spell bad things for our future. From the polar caps melting, to receeding glaciers the planet is warming up. However this is to be expected as the planet changes. I think the damage that we have done is significant, but pales in comparisson to mother nature. He have contributed a fair share of trama to the planet, but in the great skeam of things, the damge we have done over the last 150 years is rather small compared to the thousands of years that mother nature has been at work. Right now we face several life ending events, the poles might flip, the megnetic field might collaps, the sun might go nova, we could get hit by a comit, the moon could explode, etc. These are all real possibilities and surely one day one of them will come to pass and we will all be no more. In the mean time we must learn to work toward protecting what we have, or we will surely loose it. That is why under my rule, environmentalists would be given the power over millions of slaves and be ordered to clean up the planet. |
