the athlete at some point prior to the event he's going to use this trick for, has his own blood drawn, and stored. then when the day arrives will have (i think primaryly the red blood cells) has the blood place back into his blood stream, resulting in a boosted oxygen carrying capacity. the only real give away would be his red blood cell count, just prior to the event and for a short period of time after.

This is called autologous blood doping.

that said wasn't there another big scandle around 2000? (it was in france)

1998, a team car was stopped and it was full of various injectible drugs, needles, etc. That was the last huge shakeup.

I think the difference between an 'Energy drink' and 'Doping up' is the difference between 'A test of human endurance' and 'A test of drugs'.

Kinda like the difference between a stock car, and a stock car with nitro injectors.

yes the 1998 event was what I was refering to, it created a bit of an up roar in France, if I remember right. I ran across it in a news paper.

Not really. Energy drinks are still drugs, they're just relatively weak ones. Same as using painkillers to ride through an injury that would slow you down otherwise..

Yeah...But painkillers don't do bad things to you. At least not in moderate dosages.
