Re: HEAT type penetration..
As further addendum, this confirms what I had been suspecting for some time:multicharge missiles were more effective than the theoretical HEAT penetration + warhead size.I had never run extensive tests before though.
But I ask:is there a justification based on the real world or others issues, like for the warhead malfunctions? |
Re: HEAT type penetration..
A multiple charge weapon is assumed to get an extra "peck" at the same impact area that the first unmasking blast attacked. Whether plain steel, anti-HEAT armour, or ERA protected armour.
Top attack missiles are also in this category (ie treated as multiple charge) for code/databse simplicity. Cheers Andy |

I am not sure if I get it:are you saying that the extra bonus is supposed to represent the precursor charge? |
Re: HEAT type penetration..
Why is the I-TOW and TOW-2 multi-charge atgm, IIRC they both have a single large warhead, with a stand-off probe to improve penetration. It does not have a precursor warhead to detonate ERA. TOW-2A was the first TOW to receive the precursor warhead, as it was specifically designed to.
I will try and redo the test again, when i have time.. Thanks for the info. |

Re: HEAT type penetration..
Since we are at it, is there some other feature in the code that you are aware of?
For example do top attack missiles factor in that they will not hit top armor at a perfect 90°? Or is that left to OOB designers by means of lowering warhead penetration in the missiles themselves? Stuff like that. |
Re: HEAT type penetration..
Top attack missiles get more top attack hits, and can do so from the same level as the target (unlike normal shells which have to be fired from higher up).
