I'd play, but I only got demo. I'm not going to be eaten alive by some eldritch full version owner who Cloud Trapezes has Lord of the Sky and proceeds to Wrath my forces to ashes.

Come on people. Just pick a game and declare your challenge. Such as saying "Im in game cyan as Pangaea". Or are we not ready for head-to-head? Want larger games? larger maps?

I'd like to be trashed by somebody, but sadly I totally fail to understand this:

Here is the start codes...
dom3 -T --makemap $GAME --mapaa --mapsize 640 480 --mapprov 30

nohup dom3 -g $GAME --port $PORT -ST --statfile --scoredump \
--preexec $DIR/pre.sh --postexec $DIR/post.sh \
--era $ERA --indepstr 5 --hofsize 10 --magicsites 65 \
--uploadmaxp 2 --renaming --mapfile $MAP --masterpass $MPASS \
-q --hours 24 >$DIR/game.log 2>$DIR/game.err &

I have the same problem with Dom2, never figured out how to do those connection-code thingies (unless somebody told me in easy two syllable words (one word at a time) what to do each and every time I did one of those)... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif

Could I be rude enought to ask for an example how to join "era 2 game bl_cysteine on port 8885", please? I am running the Windows version. And yeah, I am capable of playing MP games (at least Dom2 games), I just "have to" do it from the game menu. Ie I presume I can't just start the game and connect to the server and port 8885, but I need to have done some of these fancy coding thingies?

All you need to do is:

1. Start Dom3.
2. Click on Network
3. Click on Connect to Dominions Server
4. type dom3minions.com and press enter
5. type 8885 and press enter
6. select the nation you wish to play (have a pretender created using game tools beforehand)

Sorry that some of the words were of more than two syllables http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hum it looks like it's possible to start a game alone. I wanted to look how the server worked, and I've started a game in the first port "roundfish" thinking that the program was just going to say "waiting for another player". But the game seem to have started even if I was alone (according to the first screen there was only my EA Ermor in the game, but I've got the message about hosting in 24 hrs and could give orders). Then I've clicked "end turn", and I've ascended and got a nagot gick fell.

Re: Blitz Games on host.dom3minions.com

Did you click on Start Game rather than on Disconnect? If you are the first player to join a particular game, you need to select your nation, which will upload your pretender, then click disconnect. The game will then wait for a 2nd player to upload.

Thanks Truper, well done, I have not played blitz games on a TCP'ie thingymyjig before, so thanks for the CLEAR, concise idiots guide.

Show me code like Gandalf Parker did and my brain shuts down. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

Will try 1 or 2 now.

Lets see if I understand correctly, the pocedure, this thread is like throwing done a gauntlet, I start a blitz game, then issue a challenge in this thread giving the port no., yes?

Someone takes up the challenge, we blitz away at each another. I presume once I have done my turn, opponents done his, the games hosts automatically? So in a 24 hr period u could get throu. alot of turns?

I'd like to play some MP, but I have been tied up with learning the ropes of SP before I get started with MP. How long does the normal blitz game take?

Thanks! This is exactly what I needed (and I even managed to understand some of the longer words http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif ). Thumbs up!
Now all I need is to find an opponent http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I presume it is ok for me to open up just the port in question (and have it forwarded on my router)? Ie no additional ports needed for traffic?

Re: Blitz Games on host.dom3minions.com

Actually the server is host.dom3minions.com
The dom3minions.com is a different machine
