It might be harder to defend for a AI, but that could also make it easier for the AI to actually do some dmg when they attack since they would be able to bypass your defenses. Also, in my (limited) exp. the AI sucks anyway, so honestly, what do you have to lose?

As I mentioned, it won't help the AIs.

They can't choose among the multitude of ways to get to a destination system and choke.

Like I said though, the AI now is just retarded. It seems to try to defend the wp more then it's planets, in several games I've played I come through the wp, fight a fleet on the other side, then move to the planets. As more ships are built (or come from else where)they just seem to fly straight for the wp that I came from, they make no attempt to fight me, or even defend the planet I'm poised to take from them. I've thought maybe their trying to prevent me from being reinforced, but when I have 10 ships over their planet (2 of which are transports) and they have 20+ and just continue to build up the defense of the WP. One game I even kept just ending the turn right away until they had 35 ships to my 12 and they just kept building up (while I blockaded their planet). I'll be the first to admit, I've barely played this game, but the games I have played this is what I've noticed. The AI lacks any kind of value. One of the things that was advertised heavily about this game is the moddable AI. So maybe with time and mods, this would be a nice feature for the AI to use, combined with WP it could allow multi-prong assaults on systems. Even if the AI couldn't be "forced" to use it, it would still make for some more intresting MP games.

I have heard the AI and sucks and that it is stronger than most other games. I think it just sucks and am looking forwarded to seeing how I can best mod it. That will be the last item I try to tackle though!

I like the Idea of FTL-Jumps and the workaround with creating and closing wormholes quite simple.

The two problems I see, are not surpringly forcing the AI to go with the system and pathfinding when sending ships arround.
Actually thats just two sides of the same problem.

SoDs issues with the AI could easiely be resolved with this system by disabling the chokepoint defense and forcing a widespread planetary defense ( which would also go well with a few other ideas of mine .. like the space defense plattforms i saw in some SE IV mods .. a small base sized unit )
