Re: OT: Eve On Line
I play EVE and have recently converted many other SE players http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I am in a smaller alliance that controls a portion of 0.0 space. We have our own outpost we recently constructed. We do all kinds of fleet combat and it is a great group if people. I would be happy to help anyone get started in the game. We have a great corp you can join in Empire space till you are experienced enough to come out to 0.0(lawless space) with me.
It is a good game but there are alot of places it could be better but it is the only game of its kind. So you get what you get. |
Re: OT: Eve On Line
I've been playing Eve for more than a year. Fun game, but I tend to play solo and therefore have rarely ventured into 0.0 space. I'm in a 'casual players' corp that some stupid pirate corp has recently declared war on, so I may be going back to a NPC corp soon.
I'm not into pvp and ganking and gate camping. The stupid wars get on my nerves. I play games to relax, not to lose all the stuff I've got to some gate camping jerk. What corp and alliance are you in, Combat Wombat? |

That's why I made the carebear comment, though...EVE gets a bad rap partly because of the alliance thing and partly because of the "OMGZ, lose your ship to vet, garrrgggh!!!" thing. That's why it isn't for everyone. It isn't a game where you can just run around randomly with relative impunity. That is one of the things I like about it. Don't simply look at why people leave. Rather, consider what you want in a game and look at why people STAY. If fleet combat and alliances aren't your thing, EVE is not for you. If feeling perfectly safe no matter where you are is your thing, EVE is not for you. That's just how the game is. Despite what people might tell you, griefing shmucks that have nothing better to do than pwn nubs are actually relatively uncommon. See, you can round up a posse and go smash them. In fact, Goonfleet tends to use the Massive Horde of Newbs strategy to cause a ruckus. Take a big horde of new players, give them all the cheap ships they can get blown up, and tell them what needs killed. |

And I don't really have much sympathy if you put all of your money in a brand new ship, just to have it blown up. What you SHOULD do is keep enough money in the bank for a new ship, and if you do in fact get blown up, play it safe for a while in 'safe' space. A little bit of cautiousness goes a long way. The only time in Eve that I've gotten killed so far is in low sec space, when I decided to try killing a frigate that warped in. And it turns out he had friends... anyway, as long as you warp away instantly unless you are sure you have a chance of winning, you're fairly safe. Except for warp bubbles, but those are rare... |

Re: OT: Eve On Line
Its one of those games that your either going to love or hate. There really is no middle ground. If you think you might like it, there is a free trial. It's just a game, of course it has limitations. This isn't your ordinary "oh great, I just lost my entire fleet, time to reload" game. I've never been in a corp or alliance and I only had the problem the other day, but if you think about it, that was karma, something good came my way, then something bad nailed me. Having said that I am to the exact same point I was before it happened as far as ship and equipment goes. Just a little less cash, but hey, most of what I used to get back on my feet, wasn't mine anyway.

As I said, I tend to like to do my thing when I feel like it. I work hard and when I come home I like to relax. I hate being in an alliance where somebody is telling me when I need to log on and what I have to do when I log on. I have a boss and a wife, so I just don't need another situation where I am obligated to do something for some stranger. That's the big problem with online games, IMHO. TBH it kind of bothers me when people say 'Eve is a pvp game' or 'Eve is a group game' or 'Let's force people out of NPC corps and into player corps.' My understanding is that Eve is whatever each player wants it to be. Whether or not the player plays solo, it's up to them, and nobody has the right to judge them. |
Re: OT: Eve On Line
Being in allinace isn't all abut doing things for the alliance. I do things for my alliance because it allows me and the alliance to continue to operate in 0.0 where there is alot more money to be made and the things I do are few and usually quite fun like fleet combat.
But if you are going to leave the game Artaud could I convince you to give me your stuff, no point in letting it go to waste. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: OT: Eve On Line
Starting to sound just like the EVE Online forums and game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
If someone doesn't like how you play then they say Eve is not for you. Too much of that attitude crept into Eve and other online games. |
