Re: EA R\'Lyeh:Pretenders and Scales
I will try to address your concerns in detail when I have time tonight Stryke11, but I wanted to let you know that I read your post and that I had the exact same issues when I first tried EA R'Lyeh.

Now for the screenshots: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...bolethhome.jpg The heat is from the summer weather, I took sloth3 and growth3. Any one here listed as defend had cast a spell or made an item last turn. I actually have all the research done, just don't have all my ex-researchers things to do....yet. My Clam farm is actually in a different sea fort, although you can see a few of them here. The main thing here is notice my income and the number of people I have here. My goddess was imprisoned to start and has been free for some time here. For the next pic note my supply usage from the previous pic and see how many troops I have here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ffreespawn.jpg A lot of freespawn! I could gate out my poypal queen and my elder poypal mother heroine right now, and with a little work my poypal mother I have here too, but I actually want to see how many of these buggers I get eventually! My main underwater force that is preparing to go on land soon (after dropping the aquatics): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...rwaterarmy.jpg The best part is that all those krakens are from enslave mind. I never summoned a single kraken. Many of the merfolk and icthyid troops are also from enslave mind. You should notice I do not have that many Gibodai. I have enough to matter, but not too many since they can't leave the sea. And finally, my main field army I am using to squash my enemies on land: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...boletharmy.jpg The main force is my Mind Lord leaders backed up with some slave priests to carry supply and utility items with lots of lobo guards to soak damage. I was able to find the Crater underwater and that is why I have a lot of ilithids in this picture. The shots are not to say:Look at what I can do! They are to show you what can be done with them once you get used to their very different playstyle and to encourage you to keep giving EA R'Lyeh a chance! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: EA R\'Lyeh:advice and screenies
Wow....that land army is insane. I can't imagine how the AI could stand to that. All the gems, too...wow. I never have excess gems to give to commmanders once I do my summons and create items. Everyone is armored to the hilt, too. Do you play with any kind of income/supply/magic site multiplier?
Idea: If you cast a mass teleport spell onto land with a bunch of the spawns, I wonder if they just die. That would be very useful (though I suppose not thematic, though I'm sure neither is having a relatively infinite supply of the supposedly rare and ancient mind lords). |
Re: EA R\'Lyeh:advice and screenies
I'm using default EA settings, barring the events which I turn down. This has been a long game and my pretender is very diverse with magic. I have Maelstrom and Arcane Nexus up for lots of gems on top of at least 20 clams of pearls. I also have been casting voice of tiamat underwater till I got acashic record for use anywhere and then switched to that. The growth3 really adds up in a long game!
I think you can TP a commander onto land with the spawns and they would all go poof! but I have not tried it. Edit:The only mods I normally use are the banners mod as you can see, and the worthy heroes mod. |
Re: EA R\'Lyeh:advice and screenies
Is that chain mail of displacement on all of your priests? That and a lot of supply items I see.
Wow...I'd love to see more screenies. I wish more people would put up screens of their killer armies. |
Re: EA R\'Lyeh:advice and screenies
It's the armor that gives the air shield, can't recall the name offhand (silver hauberk?). And I did make a ton of supply items in this game as I made the largest non-LA Ermor Army I have ever tried. The main reason I have so many slave priests is simply to carry all those supply items! Several Lobo Guards died so that is why it's using -103 supplies right now. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: EA R\'Lyeh:advice and screenies
Question. Slightly off-topic. How do you fight a well-played EA R'lyeh nation underwater with, say, Atlantis? My opponent has a vast invading army of mind blasters. I have good troops, but they cannot even get into the battle. They are all paralyzed and blasted to smithereens before either side can even engage.
We're talking about a few hundred mind blasters... Aboleths, Mind Lords, gibodai, giboleths, with a fronting army of several hundred chaff. Atlantis has some very good evokers, but that does me little good underwater. I tried using Anti-Magic on my whole army, but they were still slaughtered. |

Well you are facing a strong underwater only army of probably atleast 6000+ gold so will probably need atleast a similar costed force to tackle it.
Definitely dont use deep ones due to their abysmal MR. Vast hordes of atlantian spearmen and war shamblers backed by antimagic would probably be your best bet. Other low resource indies could also fill out your ranks. One possible(but untested) way would be a MR focused basalt king out in front to soak up mind blast hits(they should target him due to high health/large side/closeness)and maybe do some damage too - Just let the king buff with earthpower, iron will and X skin and fireshield(also phoenix pyre if you have it). You can(hopefully) see an example of this below or in the attachment. edit: OK, im pretty sure i messed that up, can people see the picture? http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...alt%20King.png |
Re: EA R\'Lyeh:advice and screenies
Hmm. Thanks Shovah. I may try your untested Basalt King method. But in the extreme I think... with say 5 B-Kings such equipped and out in front. Wish I had taken a bless now.

Re: EA R\'Lyeh:advice and screenies
Still off topic: Blessed basalt kings are great. E9N4-8(and possibly some astral or water) gives you affliction avoidance and good reinvigoration for the ultimate basalt bomb of doom - which consists of atleast one basalt king with E9 bless, summon earthpower and multiple reinvigoration items(boots of the messenger, amulet of resilence, maybe girdle of might) and other normal thug/SC equipment to give decent survivability and offensive power - charging into the enemy ranks and either killing everyone or killing some guys, dying(and killing many enemies in the resulting explosion) and then coming back and killing more http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.
Also, ive just noticed phoenix pyre is an underwater no-no so ignore the suggestion of it in my last post. If you are going with basalt kings to soak up mind blasts dont forget to take other troops. Despite quickened basalt kings with firebrands killing around 6 units per turn they are expensive and will probably need support to defeat the large army you mentioned. As I said their large size, high cost, high health and proximity to the enemy should get them targeted unless you use flyers. |
