Flying communions are pretty sweet. They are perhaps not as effective as teleporting, but they are cheaper and won't set off domes.

Edit: Are the changes to the Couatl just to the MA Mictlan ones?

Heh. Yeah. I remember when Pythium teleported a bunch of mages into my province- the one where I had a Dome of Flaming Death up. Nothing is as tasty as 10 fried mages.

So... not setting off domes is good.

It's the reqruitable Couatl that is altered. Summoned ones stay the same IIRC.
