Replayability. You can have done dozens of games and still haven't seen every nation in action. The loss of control in battles is strange at first, but you'll get to appreciate it.

Re: So what makes this game so fun?

Ive been playing this game for years (Dom, DomII, Dom3) and I can never quite delete it from my machines. I get a new machine, I consider not loading this, I try it just for a second and I'm sucked back into it for months and months. It is well worth the money. Just figuring out how to properly play each nation made this game last MUCH longer on my computer than other (prettier) games of the same price. And when you get that figured out then there is the multiplayer games which have at LEAST that many versions in game setup or conditions for you to muddle though.

I love that there is no perfect way to win. Even the developers didn't have one for everyone to figure out. But there are hundreds of fun and creative ways to lose. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I also like the RPG thing. It takes getting used to being just the god-guy giving instructions which don't always get done the way you wanted. You aren't controlling each piece for each step. But the RPG conversations in my head are great when I chew them out.

And I am STILL not feeling a need to dip into all of the wonderful MODs people did to add MORE nations and stuff. So I know that this isn't going to get deleted for a long time to come still.

Reanimating zombies and arousing ghouls' hunger to eat an enemy army. Building the most efficient "thug". Trying out combinations of troops and strange summons. Huge mage-squad tactics. Eating an army of tritons with an Awe-some Wyrm. Giving an Asp Turtle the gift of reason, a flying carpet, and an army iron dragons. I can go on forever.

All the things mentioned above do make this game fun, I agree with most if not all of them

But let me be honest, if you have NEVER liked turn based strategy games you'll most likely won't like this one either. It's a nice sort of turn based strategy game, but it's not a RPG (and no matter what has been said it's just not even close) and it's not as fast as a FPS.

Try the demo and you should notice it at once. ( I was hooked at once)
IMHO this game is only for the DIE HARD TBS gamers, the learning curve is very steep and so pplz who don't even like the more accessible TBS games will probably just be put off by this game more.

It's not just for the diehard TBS gamers, I'm basically addicted to this game, and the MOO and Civ games lost my attention quite rapidly.. In my opinion, the fun comes from the sheer variety, and easy modding as well. It's got something for almost everone!

It's depth. This game is very deep. Very, very deep.

Its a tactical game mixed with RPG, with a zelse of Fantasy, and topped by a swarm of frequent support and updates. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Almost evrey time you play a game you find something new and surprising. No wonder why even the programmers forgot what they had progrmammed.
