I agree about handdrawn maps.

I don't think we should do slow research - it leaves research-dependent nations too vulnerable.

I'll take any LA nation still left (preference towards Atlantis if it's still open).

What would be the benefit of slow research?

Slow research would make endgame more interesting, but would make magic boring in the early game.

... I'm thinking about Then Chi or Caelum.

Folket - shard is already T'ien Ch'i.

I'll pencil you in as Caelum, though of course you are free to change.

SqueekyDragon, I'll put you down as Atlantis.

Remaining nations: Agartha, Pangaea

More opinions welcome on difficult/normal research.

If Pangea is still free, i'll take it.

Cool, just Agartha to go then.

Since research output grows steadily as the game goes on, hard research doesn't do much to constrain the wildness of the late game. It just delays it a bit.

In the early game, though, slow research is a major drawback, especially for a nation with strong mages fighting a bless rusher like I'm doing in Evermore http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.
