Thanks for the responses guys. I was hoping for something easier than a dome, as they are hitting me in a lot of different provinces, but I guess I will concentrate them in one or two and cast domes. I've had this happen to me when I was playing Neifel and Lanka, but no real problems arose from them (GoH was active in both cases). This time, however, I am in the early game and have been getting hit by them pretty much since the game started. What a pain. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Humans are just too "squishy".

Robe of missile protection works, give you 80% chance of negating the arrow and is quite cheap.

hiring a bunch of scouts is also a good idea... you can never have too many scouts :-)

A far as I can tell luck does not help against fatigue damage.

Recruit a cheap commander with more hit points. The higher hit point unit will be targeted first,

Not by seeking arrow.

Kristoffer O is correct... the target is randomly selected from the province.

I defer to the masters.

On the same topic, I haven't seen seeking arrow in quite some time. I also used to be plauged by it. Now the AI casts the (all but useless) remote eagle attack exclusively.

I am wondering if this is a reflection of the difficulty setting that I'm playing? I've been playing the top two difficulty levels for some time. I cannot say that I noticed a relationship between the two as I moved up, but with hindsight there appears to be a correspondence.

Unfortunately the AI uses 'call of the winds' as an attack spell... which is a waste of gems and should be one of the spells the AI never casts. It's too bad the AI is not programmed to have these army attack spells all target one province simultaneously because a 'call of the winds' combined with 'call of the wild', 'horde from hell', and/or 'imprint souls' would be significantly more effective.
The difficulty setting does not matter on the spells being casted by the AI.
