Re: Thematic problem

I'm pretty sure that only Starspawn, Void Spectres, and the R'lyeh pretender do not become insane from LA R'lyeh dominion. Everything else does.

Starspawn, Void Spectres, and the R'lyeh pretender may become insane from using the Void Gate if they get "lost in time and space". Non-Starspawn have a high chance of becoming "lost" when they summon, so it's a quick path to insanity.

You also stand a chance of a "complete failure" using the Void Gate, and you get feebleminded when that happens. It's a pretty bad plan to use your god in the Void Gate.

When you send your Starspawn into the void gate, always script him for returning, and always give him 4 pearls. I'm pretty sure I've been both attacked and "lost" all in one turn. The first two pearls save you from the attack, and the second two bring him home if he returns and lands in hostile territory.

O.O

I missed the regular Illithids with no tridents, they do seem immune. But the Illithid Soldiers go nuts, as do the Lords.

Just have a look at an Illithid Lord who's been sitting around in the Rlyeh capitol. Guaranteed to be basking in a puddle of his own drool, rocking back an forth, chanting "Nom nom nom nom nom ..."

Auluudh, the Visitor, and Cthugul, and the Void Creatures, do not become insane from Rlyeh dominion either. But if they enter the void gate and get "lost", it's straight to the pharmacy for some Thorazine.

Being "lost" in the Void gate is much worse for non-Rlyeh creatures. Send in a Wrym and he's pretty much guaranteed to get lost in the first few tries, and come back with something like 70 insanity.

Really? It's been a long time since I goofed around with LA, I coulda sworn you could do any of the Illithids. :o

Do they gain insanity at a lower rate than other beings? Maybe that's what I was seeing, because everyone else is a vegetable in a couple of months.

Can only agree that Void-themed Pretenders should be immune to Void-insanity. They can be slightly nerfed in other ways, if that's the problem... Speaking of which, Horrors should also be immune. :)

If only the regular Illithids, and not the lords or soldiers, avoid insanity, then it's probably an oversight/bug.

Oh and supposedly there *are* creatures of the Void who can summon from the Void Gate-it says so in the nation description, I believe?

Man, I just looked all over for this, it reads something like "only Starspawns and some Void Beings can use the Void Gate without going insane".

But I can't find it now, despite having read it a dozen times. Is it a "Tip"? I'm thinking it must be.

I tried a 'blue' Starspawn once though, and he got swallowed up like a goldfish, so if that is a Tip, I don't like its vagueness. :p

Possibly a test ought to be done using GORed void summons?

Re: Thematic problem

It says so, but I'm not sure this is actually the case. Same as with Dwarven smiths which are said to excel at magic forging... but they don't unless they make their namesake Hammers! Probably they held such ability at one time... and Tartarian Cyclops, iirc, also has such mentioned in its description... :) I would prefer them to be more costly in return to having consistency with description... or description changed. ;)
