The only way I can see a good spectator thing working is as a pbem thing. |

The solution that you came up with can only be implemented locally, not over the network, but it should be possible to do this. It would be OS-dependent, of course, or at least require some scripting language like Python or Perl being installed, and might require a little setup from the user's side, so nothing for computer-illiterates. But the idea should be possible to get implemented.
